BG2 compared to BG1
Hey, me again. I'm now at the end of the Underdark, and.. it's great! The Underdark is without a doubt the best part of the game yet. If it gets any better than this, than Boo and I will rejoyce even more!
Ha. I'm glad it picked up for you. There's a lot of interesting parts left.

For me, the combat is what makes BG2 fun to play over and over again. I played BG1 and TOSC countless times, and now I just can't bring myself to trudge through it anymore because it seems like a point and click adventure in comparison to playing SoA and ToB. The higher levels of both your characters and your opponents in BG2 added so much tactical depth to the game, and for me, that's always made BG2 superior to the original.
But if I did have to pick one thing I liked in BG1 that didn't really translate to the sequel, it would have to be the exploration. Still, I think this also fits with where you are and what you're doing. In BG1, you're exploring the Sword Coast, which is mostly untamed wilderness, all the while adventuring in the purest sense of the word. In BG2, you're exploring Amn and Athkatla, just the opposite of the Sword Coast, and you're certainly no longer just an average adventurer. At least, that's the way I see it.

Definately agree here. You're not just an average adventurer any more. You're a hardened veteran of battles against hordes of monsters and villains and you've taken down several powerful mages and criminal networks. It gives you more of a point and a goal to achieve with Imoen missing and her captor on the loose. In the first BG you're just looking to find out who you are, but in BGII, you're more trying to prove you were right in the first place by learning even more details.

Any man who asks for greater authority does not deserve to have it.
