Is the story line weak or what? "spoiler!"
Compared to the first game KOTOR II is weak, bland, lame and dumb. What's with this Kriea "female dog". Ok she's dark but if I am light I should be able to driver her from the team. Right? No I get dragged about by my nose by her and have no control over plot developement. I wish Bioware would have done this puppy instead of Obsidian. The difference between KOTOR I and KOTOR II is like Star Wars "the movie triolgy" and the TV series Buck Rogers! Hello! GAG! If I was Lucas I would NOT have my name attached to this dog. Anybody heard about the petition to patch the game and have a better ending? Hope it comes thru and they fix a lot of the bogus story line details. Like Kriea wacking THREE Jedi masters!! She'd have to be SOOO powerful no one would be able to defeat her! But you do! Ok I done, had my say ... want my $50 bucks back! Or a real good patch that fixes the game and brings it up to par with the first one.
So, about when does Kotor II start getting bad? I'm on my third planet, Onderon (dxun), I've done dantoine and nar shaddar, and the game isn't ****ty yet. I'm really afraid to go on because I keep reading about this game being **** when you get past half of the game. Well I haven't stumbled upon the **** yet, so I'm pretty sure it'll come soon. I'm too afraid to play!!! B)
lol, I liked it all, until the end when they leave way too much unanswered. I'll leave you to finish it. I thought you had already?
Well they did kinda rush the game into an early production, so I would have to dsay that they did leave out a little to much unanwsered

I don't even care about the story that much, half of it doesn't make sense to me anyway. I only love the game-play. We'll see how the story affects me when I finnish the game.
PS: No, I only planned my character. Not finnished.
I haven't even gotten enlightenment yet. heheh.

The game was rushed and, hence, incomplete in places. Likewise, it lacked the "freshness" and the "monumental plot twist" of the first games, and it didn't develop certain planets as thoroughly as the first game (i.e. Korriban and Dantoine, just felt incredibly small and incomplete to me this run through). Still, KoTOR2 is still a good game, though. The game play is enjoyable and the story, while somewhat incomplete, is complex and quite rich in places. The NPCs are fairly well done too, though the run out of things to say too early for my tastes. Regardless, I enjoyed the game. If they had taken more time finishing the game and polishing the plot elements and made combat even remotely more challenging, I would have enjoyed it more. But, as it was, its still a decent game.

I don't find the RPG elements that great . Most of the force powers are lame. Also, all the items in the game suck. They all look bland and boring. Lightsabers are cool, but the coolness wears off. Also no variation in tactics against oppponent.
To be honest I dont like AD&D rules in games too much. The quests are interesting though. (As for Kreia beating 3 jedi masters being impossible.....watch the new star wars movie, it might just be possible. PLus the PC could beat three i am sure.) Overall i dont think i'll play the game too many times. I didnt find Neverwinter nights that interesting either.
I prefer a game called Sacred, a diablo style game, cause it has so many interesting and unique items, and actually has increasing difficulty, you need to actually be very strategic about your build to be successful and you can develope your character MUCH more. Story line is kinda uniinteresting though, but graphics are more atmospheric than KOTOR games. Pretty underatted game, but it is a very hack and slash RPG with no 'skills' or alignment type roleplaying....it is all about character builds. but that is the bit i enjoy!!! soooooo many differnet variations available. also you need real strategies against different opponent types, and even an uber character can be quickly mobbedf and killed if not carefully played. obviously i liked diablo 2 a lot too, but i found the game area small and uninteresting. i prefer a continous map as in sacred.

Actualy I like the way game ends. Yes it leaves many unanswered questions but I like that (I'll start hating it if they don't answer them in KotoR III).
I agree, Obsidian/Bioware realy messed up force powers - they are either way to powerfull or completly useless. Items are pretty much all the same, but since their distribution is random you can't plan your game acounting them (like you could in first one).
As for Kreia killing 3 Jedi Masters - I don't have a problem with her doing it, my problem is that she uses some force power that she didn't use ever before and will never again use. The ONLY time she uses that power is in that cut-scene. Now if she draw her lightsaber that might be belivable (at least as far as Revenge of the Sith movie goes).
And finaly for storyline: while in the first game fact that you ARE Revan came as suprise (more or less) the fact that Kreia is major bad guy become pretty obvious early in the game (to me after she tortured Atton while in prison on Telos Academy) which is bad.

I don't know how anyone could lable KotOR II's story "weak, bland, lame and dumb" in relation to the first game. While the time constraints meant Obsidian didn't pull it off as they should have done, it was a much deeper more interesting story than the first one, and executed much better in the parts that were finished. The first games story, while still very enjoyable, was pretty weak if you ask me, especially in how the gameplay related to it - all of the planets were practically the same, even the unknown world. The most interesting planet was probably Taris....
Each to their own I guess...

Deeper: Yes
Interesting: Definetly
But also:
Predictable (like I said you could figure who the major villain is by the time you leave Telos - no suspense there).
Incomplete (I actualy like the ending like it is, but there is too many other loose ends)
Am I the only one who felt like storywriters loose their inspiration couple of times during this game? Forget the fact that Kreia kills all Jedi masters using force power she didn't use anywhere out of that cut-scene. Think about Darth Nihilus' attack on Telos:
Why he came there? Because Tobin told him there's Jedi Academy there.
How did Tobin know that? Kreia told him after you finished Onderon.
But what if I don't take Kreia with me? You can't do that. You MUST take Kreia with you when you go to Onderon for the second time.
Why must I take her? Because if you don't (and you probably wouldn't because you have couple of better characters by then) she can't tell Tobin about Academy and the storyline got mesed up!!! If that's not lame...
As for gameplay related to story - all of the planets were practically the same in this game also so it's no improvement (not to mention that Dantooine and Korriban are practicly non-existant in this game).
And as far as unlogical things go: Kreia teach you Breath Control and Beast Trick but she doesn't know that powers herself, and Handmaiden teaches you Battle Precognition which she don't know herself. I'm not sure about Visas and Force Sight, I think she had that power listed.

I meant that in the first game it was "go here, find Star Map, solve kind of unrelated quest for a guy who will then get you to where you need to find the Star Map, etc etc", whereas in this game I felt I was doing something relevant all of the time, and in different ways - I liked the fact that Korriban was almost non-existant, why would you need to stay there for a long time?

I didn't think TSL was that bad. I felt robbed and confused but I had fun getting there. I think as a sandbox, TSL is an improvement but the story wasn't as engaging. The characters weren't as engaging.
The knock on KOTOR I was that it was very linear. It sort of had to be linear to tell a good story IMO. TSL was less linear and that seemed to pose a problem story-wise. I don't know if that is a by product of opening up the story.
