Reinstall, reinstall, reinstall...

Post by Chrizum »

Hey,
I'm playing BGII for a while now, but after a while, when I launched the game, it said "You need to install the game before playing BGII" I was like what the heck, it IS installed. I thought maybe my dad uninstalled it, but I checked, and the SoA directory is still 2,x GB, and everything is still there.

Now, today, I encountered this again. It's very annoying. Anyone encountered this before? Anyone care to give a solution? ;)

I assume it's only annoying, due to your game loss. Next time, just withdraw the 'save' map, out to your desktop or anything alike, and then, after you've reinstalled, you just "deposit" again. Think of it as a bank. ;)

I know this won't help your problem, but it's just a little tip, if it happens again before someone might have helped you.
It is here! The inevatibility is here! Fear it, and it will fear you! Defy it, and it will kill you! Insanity doesn't exist!! By the way why can't I delete private messages?

Good thing my saves are still there, and even if you uninstall, the saves and characters and all will not be deleted, but yeah, it's still annoying.

Regedit

I have had the exact same problem as you.

It SUCKS, you don't lose your saves, but you do need to reinstall it.

I had to do it many times, I never figured out why it did it, but I do know one way to not have to install it.

Be warned, this way will only work if you are willing to do a bit of work with the registry, it is dangerous if you do not know what you are doing, but I will tell you what to do.

1. Install the game again.
2. On the start menu, click run, and type "regedit".
3. Go to the search option and type in Baldur.
4. Everytime you encounter a file that comes up, select it and hit export, saving as a name.
5. Gather all these files and store them in your Baldur's Gate folder.
6. Everytime you need to reinstall, simply open all of these registry files and you are done.

Good luck, if you don't understand me, simply post your problem in this forum and I'll respond.
