Darkside Powers for Sith, Light Side Powers for Jedi

Post by MasterEwok »

Okay i find it pretty lame when people say to use valor on a sith maurader and Force lightning on a jedi master. No self respecting sith would use a light side power. And no jedi master would use dark side powers for fear of falling to the dark side. If you want to use both be nuetral like kriea and Bindo.

Well - I would tend to agree with you - if this was a roleplaying game and people roleplayed.
But this is more of an action game to me then roleplaying (you don't have many roleplaying choices which influences much other then NPC "influence").

So if roleplaying a LS/DS - then I'd agree that a "selfrespecting" LS/DS would only use his powers.....

however - you play the "Exlie", and as such have no such current "moral" ties, but would/could use the forces at your disposal to rediscover yourself.
You were cut off the force, and are only now redicsovering it, possible changing your alignment anyways (could be you were good/bad in the war going with Revan etc and now are bad/good in this game).

i think the penelties for using a power from the opposite side of the force should be MUCH MUCH bigger. I barely notice the penalty using light side forces as a dark sith. I think it should drain many many more force points, perhaps even continous use should cause a gain in light/dark side poins. It would force you to play your character much more toward their nature rather than just using dark side/light side willy nilly.

I would not say that is entirely true, MasterEwok. A Light Jedi would likely never use a Dark Side power, as they consider them to be a corruption of the Force (the worst of which are widely considered to be Force Lightning and Choke) and fear using them would corrupt them to the Dark Side.

A Dark Jedi would, however, use a Light Side power if it was to their benefit. A Sith has nothing to fear that it would make them less tainted, as using it to their benefit only strengthens them and furthers their ends. Who is to say Dark Jedi would not heal themselves in combat, or freeze enemies with Stasis Field so they become helpless prisoners? The Sith are less bound by specific codes of what they can and cannot do. As one of the Sith in the game said, "No knowledge is forbidden." Since they are already fallen, they shun no knowledge or techniques that will make them stronger.

Ultimately, from a role playing perspective, I believe pure light or pure dark should not be allowed to use opposing powers. In addition, using a dark power on a light character should slowly corrupt you, as well (maybe 1 point per use if you fail a will save to keep your motives pure). This would anger many players, though, which is why it was not done. Both sides had to be kept balanced, and players given room to explore. Some sacrifices to roleplaying in favor of gameplay are necessary, and this is but a small one.

in my opinion if you are light sided and train in a darkside power when you level up it should get you TONS of dark side points...like literally 25% of the alignment slider...going from the role-playing perspective you took the time to learn and practice using the dark side of the force...it wasn't a spur of the moment desperate thing...you conciously used the dark side

I think it's okay that you do choose dark side and then use ls force powers or vice versa. Although you'll need more force points, Force storm is pretty nice and i would use it whether be light or dark. And Master revitalize is pretty handy for any sith.

yeah, you should pick up dark side points for choosing the power and for using the power. and dark siders should not be able to cast LS powers once the get to a certain DS level.

My thinking is that they draw on opposite aspects of the force. A jedi would be corrupted by the exposure to the dark side and a dark jedi/sith would become out of touch with the light side.

You can still use most light side powers, but some powers are restricted to light side jedi and vice versa for dark jedi. But, i think there's an alignment adjustment
everytime you use dark or light side powers to their respective alignments.
