Any thoughts on what side quests should be done before Chap 4?

Post by FoulDwimmerlaik »

1) As many as possible
2) All
3) Some portion (which?)

All of them, and you should do them before Chap. 3, not before Chap. 4. You should be able to get your character up to about 2.2million XP before Chap. 3. Once you're there, the rest of it is a walk in the park.

I have always thought it is best to do half. My first time through, I did about 70-80% of them, and the main story-line was too easy (it takes some of the fun out of it when you can easily defeat the main baddies). Try a few of the obvious ones like Nalia's keep, Trademeet, Umar Hills, Cult of the Unseeing Eye, and maybe 2 more, then move on with the story-line.

That's what I was thinking. I've gotten through many, Umar, Trademeet, Nalia's hold, etc., etc. Another question, I didn't realize that moving from Chapter to Chapter erases your journal. I'm sure I didn't finish all of the Chap 2 quests, because I lost my journal entries. Any way to get them back, or anyone remember all the Chap 2 quests?

Um... good advice wookie. Perhaps he could remove the experience cap, use consule to buff up his character, summon Irenicus, kill him, and uninstall the game all w/in 10 min.

I am in the same boat and got some good advice and am in the process of taking it: If you want Imoen back in your party, save about 1/2 of the quest for chapter 6 when you will have a chance to complete them with her in the party. If you are going to keep your current party, then between 1/2 and all depending on your preference. Reminder: I pass this advice on, I don't have personal experience.

More info: old quests aren't gone use the large silver arrows to page back to them.

I didn´t do so many quest before entering chapter 4, it will ofcause allways be good to do atleast some quest so you will advance in lvl, but I didn´t knew what happened in chapter 4, if I did knew, I would probably have done more quest.

Re: Yoshimo. Don't go getting involved in spoilers; if Yoshimo is your choice, then keep him. There is nothing like being surprised by a dragon or lich when you aren't expecting it. Don't deprive yourself of any of the surprises built into the game. One exception is if you have an interest in Jaheira: better take a look at a walkthrough now and again to be sure you are on track. I do believe that the completion of this romance side story is near impossible without a small amount of help.

I try to stay away from the spoilers, but I stumbled across this one too quickly....

I think your approach to the game is fine and you'll still have fun. I read the Yoshimo spoiler in Ch.2, my first time through, and I almost wished I ignored it. The storyline is probably better if you just play with the NPCs that you want, and worry about things like that later.

Waverly's advice regarding saving some experience for when Imoen is back with the group is also good if you think you might want her. I kept her for story-line reasons, but she was a big wimp because I did too much before getting her back.

I think I agree with Doltan's suggestion for quests. I did every quest before going to rescue Imoen. The game was not very challanging (which may have a little to do with my superior game play Image). When I got back to Anthkatla the only place I had not been was the guarded compound in the temple district. That fight was way to easy since all of my characters were at the xp cap.

The thing I found frustrating was that everyone was at the cap but Imoen, and she still only got 1/6 of the experience Image

Sounds like a plan. What difficulty level do you play on?

If you have 5 chars with maxed exp...does it really matter what level Imoen is?

Hex:

If you had any quests left, you could temporarily kick everyone out of your group, but Imoen and your main char. That way, she would get half of the experience. Before continuing on in the main story, just pick the maxed-out NPCs back up. By the way, I'm impressed that you maxed out your characters by Ch.6. I was close, but I didn't max them out until the end (I estimate 80% quest completion the first time through).
