No. If you want Mace of Disruption +2, then:
1. Ask for the alloy as well. Store your illithium at a safe place.
2. Bring the alloy to the jester in the Jyssev Residence. He finds out... (Note: if you have the illithium in your inventory as well, he takes the illithium and ignores the alloy.)
3. Well, you have failed the quest. Report in the temple. Nothing extraordinary happens. You will be given Helm of Glory and 10000 exp. (Note: if you do not fail the quest, you get 20000 exp, Helm of Glory, and 1000 gold)
4. Bring your Mace of Disruption +1 and the illithium to Cromwell.
Ugly? Sure. But this is the only way of geting Mace of Disruption +2.
