Dark side alignment - harder to change?

Post by Super Lord Jedi »

Is it true that if you are a dark jedi it's harder to become neutral than light side?
Because some sw rpg games are like that.

Yeah... some characters are almost impossible to influence unless you take a couple LS hits. It's really annoying. Visas and Atton are a snap. They do everything you do. One thing is for sure, this game is a hella lot easier as LS.

I agree it's significantly more difficult to play an evil character than a good one. Not all of us are good roleplayers and can separate our real personas from our gaming style at will, and even those that can often cannot bring themselves to commit some of the acts necessary to fully fulfill this path. Besides that, all games like this are more designed with a Good path in mind. You can be either, but certain plot elements really only work if you are Good, and you find yourself doing good things just to advance the plot. KotOR 1 and 2 are pretty solid in that you can advance the plot either way, but your party members are mostly good, and so gaining influence is difficult on an Evil path.

If you are Dark in this game, it is very easy to become Light or Neutral. Just start performing random acts of kindness. Nar Shadaa and Dantooine are the two main planets for this sort of behavior, although Onderon is good, too. I tend to ignore Onderon until last because simply going there sets various events in motion that cannot be avoided, and it turns out to be a long haul before you can leave.

One of the easiest things to do is simply stay Neutral or Neutral Good until you get enough influence to make them Jedi. You can do this by performing acts of kindness intermixed with evil acts. Often the small evil acts will go unnoticed by your comrades, while the good ones will gain influence (one of the more comical of which occurs on Nar Shadaa).Once Bao-Dur, Atton, and Handmaiden are Jedi, you can warp evil with ease. You don't necessarily need Atton to be a Jedi, but it helps on Dxun. If you don't use him, be sure to invest Stealth points in one of the other characters. By staying neutral, it should be a simple matter to choose which side you want to play in the end.

Remember you can also gain negative influence to train people. They will just become the opposite of what you are. This might be good, since if all characters are evil, there's no use for LS-only items, and vice versa. So I'd suggest to keep at least one character the opposite of what you are. For LS, probably the easiest is Visas, and for DS maybe Handmaiden. Atton is easy to influence both ways.

Well, each side has it's ups and down. Dark side gets you more cash and light side gives allies.

I'm playing an all the way right from the get-go dark side character this round, and I am having no trouble at all influencing my crew. They all love me. Once in a while I've reloaded and done a minor light side move if Bao-Dur disapproved, but he's pretty much gotten past that now. Actually, I tend to think dark side is much easier, ever so much more POWERFUL, ESPECIALLY since you get wonderful Hanharr and not crappy Mira.
And yes, I agree with aforesaid issues over struggling to make dark side decisions and it being tough to stray so far from normal persona, but - hey, it's a game. That's what makes it fun.
you know what they say about all work and no play...
It's totally not worth the monetary rewards!!!

Mira's skill comes in handy when you're on g0-t0 (is that right?) yacht, where there are a lotta deadly mines, and Freedon nadd's temple on dxun if she has good stealth that is :)
