Too Many Choices
Just the basics on how to select a character to play with, like class and attributes and that sort of thing. Since I am going to be playing as single player game, I can't "create" my 4-5 characters for my party right at the intro or start of this game, right? I have to create my main character, and begin to play and hope to pick up members of my party along the way, right? So, since I can only create one character, what should his make-up be to be durable and strong. I'm thinking of a HUMAN, Paladin, etc.
If it sounds like I'm new to this, I am. I have RPG experience from several years ago playing Might & Magic series and the Ultima series, but it's been a long time since I've played and I forgot just about all I knew back then.

When your unfamiliar with the game, i would recommand starting with a normal fighter.
Then you have the lowest Armorclass (AC) (the lower the better).
I recommand choosing Bows and largeswords as you weapons.
There are 6stats:
Strenght: effects how much weight you can carry and your chance to hit and damage with melee weapons
Dexterity: Effects your AC and your chance to hit and damage with ranged weapons
Constitution: Effects your hitpoints
Wisdom: Only usefull for a cleric or druid, it effects their number of spells
Intelligence: Only usefull for a mage, it effects their number of spells
Charisma: With anhihger charaisma you get better storeprices.
If you arent a real roleplayer, i recommand rerolling your stats untill you can put your str/dex/con to 18 (somtimes higher sometimes lower depending on your race) the other stats arent that important.
Hope this helps!

I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
Stilgar's pretty much right on. Definitely some sort of missile weapon is absolutely essential. If you're feeling especially daring, forego the sensible single class fighter and go for a multiclass fighter/cleric/whatever. The game has a max level for characters. It got pretty frustrating going through the last part of the game at max level with no more level ups to look forward to. A multiclass character delays hitting that ceiling. Plus you'll be thankful for the extra healing spells.

The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

You CAN create all the characters and it's easy. Start a MP game and play it alone.
