You gotta give up plenty to get it (IIRC two strength items) and wind up with only one...

The gauntlets are a joke? The bonus they give is only one less damage than the girlde of hill giant strength, two less that stone giant strength. Thats a pretty fine line between joke and very helpful.
But I do agree that the hammer is worth it. I think it's too good and shouldn't be in the game, but I used it anyway and just didn't give it to my main character (Who I hold to a higher level of integrity than the others )
You still have two girdles of strength, and one character won't need one. Best weapon in the game, without a doubt (in my head).

Do not knock Crom until you actually try it out. It deals out so much damage it's downright funny. especially if you dual-wield it with something else that's high-end you can pretty much walk through the opposition and smite everything. It's very worth giving up the Ogre strength guantlets especially because of what Crom takes your strength up to .
It seems i am the only one that i think Crom Faeyr is overrated. The hammer is powerful, but this is not enough. The main problem with it is the fact you had to do many quests to built it and by the time you find the last piece you have completed around 70% of the game.
Not only that, but when you enter Suldanesselar, you discover that it can't kill adamantite and iron golems with one hit (that's what the manual description says, that's what i want-Cromwell made an imitation of the weapon as it seems) and i found only one Ettin in the game.
Real useful weapons are these that can be found relatively easy and aid you for most of the game.Top three for me are :Celestial Fury,Flail of Ages and Carsomyr.

ettins ? pleeeeeeeeeease, I only found one in the sahuagin city, and I turned my party AI on, and set my party (Imoen, Jan, Nalia, Edwin, Aerie) to melee it to death. Took all of 5 seconds.
I think it's only +3 and you left out Staff of the Magi in your list. I think there's only 2 +5 weapons out there. Carsomyr being the other. Never mind, +5 ammo-less sling too.

I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter
