Do the NPCs in BGI have banter?

Post by krunchyfrogg »

It's been a really long time since I played this game, and I'm getting the itch to play again.

Do the NPCs in BGI have banter, like they do in BGII? I ask because I'm considering creating a theme party, but I'll be less likely to do that if the NPCs in the game have "real" personalities (one of the things I really loved about BGII).

I'm not quite sure if I understand what you mean with 'banter' and creating a 'theme party'. Though I can say that the all the NPC's definitely have a unique personality of their own. This, I find one of the most appealing things about the game and these features are partly the reason that Baldur's Gate is a better game than Icewind Dale.
There are probably enough NPC's availabe to make a likable, connecting party for every player, so I guess that yes: you can make a theme party.

NPCs do talk with eachother, but it consists only small one liners, once in a while. It are things like "Your company is appreciated" and sometimes some threats when 2 don't like eachother.

It is nothing like BG2, where NPC interaction is big part of the game.

If you are playing Tutu then the BG1 NPC Project will add a lot of banter and interjections, as well as some quests, to your game. :) http://www.gibberlings3.net

Cool link Andyr!

I heard that tutu is notoriously buggy though, is this true?

BTW, by "theme party" I meant creating all six NPCs and following a theme, like creating the Fellowship of the Ring, or that Companions adventuring party from the Dragonlance saga.

It is not buggy provided people follow the installation instructions, which are fairly clear. :) It, and mods for Tutu, are no less reliable than other quality fan-made mods for BGII.

The NPCs in Baldur's Gate do banter, but not very often and sometimes it is the same stuff over and over again. The banter mods are really nice, so give them a shot. It still doesn't compete with the competition and nastiness in the banters from BGII, though.

i cant remember exactly who but i remember one time in nashkell (several years ago when i was new at baldurs gate) , some guys in my party started fighting each other (good vs evil). i think it may have been jaheira and khalid vs edwin , or minsc vs edwin , or xzar/montaron vs jaheira/khalid. something like that anyway. so yes they do have banter !!

Edwin and Minsc get into a brawl over Dynaheir if you're not careful. It doesn't happen all the time, but they absolutely hate eachother, which is understandable, since Minsc wants to save Dynaheir and Edwin wants her mashed up into tiny pieces and fed to an ogre berserker...
