Shadowkeeper and dual/multi classes

Post by goodforyou »

I wanted to try making Imoen into a multi-class thief/mage with shadowkeeper. I realize I would have to edit two different characters (for two different Imoens).

The problem is: how to do it? Whatever I try with shadowkeeper, I keep getting a dual class, not a multi-class. I have her class set on 'thief mage', and I've tried to set the kit to 'true class', 'none', and various others. I've also tried tweaking her xp points and different class levels.

Any suggestions?

Create your own multi-class thief mage using the actual party creator.

After that, open both your char and the Imoen char, and compare the information.

Change everything to be the same, other than the stats and the experience, and it should work.
In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.

Or... Turn Imoen to half-elf that should work.

Thanks for your suggestions, but after some attempts it turns out not to be that simple.

Apparently, a character has a variable for 'dual class' that's unchanged by whether that character is an elf, human, or whatever. Unfortunately, I don't think shadowkeeper gives access to that variable. I tried just making every visible variable the same like suggested, but the one I need is not available.

I was able to figure this out by using Infinity Explorer. Imoen and any other dual classed character always has a 'dual-class' label active in IE. This stays unchanged whether you change the race, make them a sorceror, make them level one, or even make them a multiclass fighter/mage/thief! If you make them a f/m/t, of course, they do level up as a multi (but that's not what I want).

So, if anyone does know about the 'dual class' variable, and how to change it, please let me know!

Thanks!

I would recommend using a more advanced editor such as Near Infinity (first result on a Google for the name). Whether a character is dual-classes or multiclassed is controlled by a flag on the .CRE file, so if you open it up and uncheck the Original class: thief flag and save then she should become multiclassed. Race doesn't need to change from Human, either. :)

Thanks!

Near Infinity was the answer. It allows you to change some variable like 'original class' or something that only dual class characters have. All other chars have this blank.
