I just visited the 'hidden' as suggested by the woman in the government district as part of the quest to cure Jan's previous love interest's daughter.
To cut a long story short, I arrived at the five flagons Inn, and went to the second floor looking for the gith, sure enough, they were in that room on the right. So the battle is on, but I decide I dont like where it is going. So I decide to re-load my autosave (the one before I go up the stairs), and rest so that my party has all their spells and such.
After resting, I return upstairs (autosaves) and proceed to the room where I had previously enountered them, but to my horror, they were not there. Some sort of bug perhaps? I read in a post on this forum that I did a search for that some people had trouble with one of the gith not appearing, but in my game, neither of them appear. What can be done to remedy this? I've tried resting multiple times, and re-loading the area many times, but they havent shown up. My last "hard save" was quite a ways back in the game, and I have very little desire to start over from there, but I do want to keep jan in my party.

I'd classify the entire quest under urgent (since you have to save the child of Jan's old sweetheart before she dies), so it would be best to start and complete it all in the same day. If an encounter is set to happen very soon after you accept the quest, then hop right to it!

Dungeon Crawl Inc.: It's the most fun you can have without 3 midgets and a whip! Character stats made by your's truly!
If I recall, when I began the quest, Jan said that I had 10 days to complete it. Resting thus far would put me one day into those 10 days.
Yeah, you have ten days.
What happens if you go back to speak with the Hidden again? Then back to the Inn and up the stairs again?
This is certainly not what you want the hear, but you should use Quicksave and Save more often.

Life seems short considering how long you will be dead.

I returned to the hidden and talked to him, he said "You have returned without results, do as I have asked or I will leave the girl to her fate". Something along those lines at least. I am assuming that this must be some major bug then.
Also, I do save often, I just accidentally quicksaved after I had opened the room door to find it empty

They don't take invisibility potions. They're either around, or they aren't.
Derfud, do you have any mods running? And did you have the game fully patched?

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
