Trolls

Post by Kheldar4 »

You know I have always wondered, why cant you be a troll in d&d games. They have half-orcs but no half-trolls! Whats the deal? In my opinion, orcs and dumb and trolls are cool, so why choose orc over troll? I know the inhabidents of the d&d world loath trolls, but if they can accept a little orc then why not?
Please tell me what you think about this

Well, since this race is not included in IWD you have to put up with the rest, that's what I think. Or try WoW ;)

What I want to know is how much beer they had to drink before they were so drunk they were willing to make half-orc babies. Seriously, that would have to be a lot, and at least the child would know they are really an accident. :p
In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.

Excluding the cop-out option of... "forced" copulation, I like the idea of the more vulgar and crude human barbarian tribes having no qualms about interbreeding with orcish barbarian tribes, and vice versa.

In PnP D&D you can make pretty much any type of character you want. Unfortunately, dragonkin and half-trolls (the thought of how this would occur is disgusting by the way! ) aren't normal PC favorites, so the better known and loved races are used instead. At the moment I'm playing a half-drow and they aren't listed either in these games, unfortunately. There just isn't enough time to allow for everything. I think the developers did a bang up job, personally.

I was able to be a troll in both EverQuest and EverQuestII. However I chose to be a dwarf and a gnome. I'm not against trolls, they just don't interest me.

Trolls were one of the least used races in both games. This may be why more games haven't offer trolls as a race.

Trolls in Everquest are probably less powerful when compared to humans than they are in Dungeons and Dragons, as well.

That is true. However, EQ doesn't have very many humans either. It has lots of elves. The trolls that exist are very dedicated and enthusiastic about being a troll. I'm just afraid that the cult of elf fans is much larger than the cult of troll fans.

Of course. Trolls aren't sexy and depicted in scanty clothing on the game cover.

I agree with this statement. What are you more likely to buy: nasty, dirty, smelly, ugly troll on the cover dripping snot and who knows what else or a blonde elvish maiden with a lot of leg and a lot of cleavage showing? Think about the majority of the people who play that game, as well as this one. Trolls are great characters, as are many other races, but humans are the most common races and the most widespread in Faerun. Other humaniods closer to humans such as elves, dwarves, halflings, half-elves, and gnomes are the other leading contenders for land across the globe, so they are discussed more and more people want to play them. Personally, I'd want to play an orc before a troll. And if I played a troll it would be a Giant Ice Troll.

I like playing elf characters because, being smaller than average and none too strong, I feel I can better put my mind into a character of a race that's more lithe and lean. It has nothing to do with some weird sylvan fetish. In fact, the boobacious elf on the Everquest cover is a major reason why I don't own the game, and don't want to. It's just too... dumb. The stereotype or whatever it is that all females in fantasy games and such need to have giant breasts and wear the equivalent of metallic underwear is pretty insulting. I'm not interested in the fantasy genre for its capacity for chix0rz.

In terms of monsters that aren't typical player races, I wouldn't mind playing a gnoll. I've played a goblin druid before with a giant bat animal companion... Guess who was flying around all the time. Wonky races aren't too common in my group, though. Personally I'm not into playing characters that are too extreme, and as a DM, I don't want my campaigns to get too out of hand.

I'm thinking this thread might be better off in the Dungeons and Dragons forum under Pen and Paper.

I´d prefer a Half Orog... With high bonuses to str and con and penalties to others except wisdom perhaps, a pure tank oriented race and good at it. Some racial abilities would be great too, bloodlust etc. Some other races would be cool too, Lizardmen and so on.. Maybe somone could do a mod for those races :D As people usually use humans(including the subraces)and drows. Other races aren´t so interesting to play unless some serious modifications for them are made.. Lots of new options needed, but not any unbalanced uber-races
