Would you recommend the game? I'm sure most liked it, but I've heard various things about it that I'm not sure I like.
1. I heard that in this game, everything is random. Sometimes you'll get tons of Lightsabers, and other times you could find nothing but short ones (and so on with other objects). Also, you don't even get a Light saber until mid way through the game.
2. The story isn't nearly as good as the first. Bad endings, and overall a mediocre story line.
3. What things in this game are not as good as #1, and what things are better.
4. Is this a must have game if you loved the first one? Or should I wait for K3?
Thanks for the help in advanced.
EDIT: Also, I heard the game was very short. Is it worth $50 bucks, or wait till it's $20?
My quick question on KOTOR 1 is about the dark ending. I bought the game a month ago, and finished the light side two weeks later. It was one of the most addictive games I've ever played (I usually just play sports games). I took a break and was planning on doing the dark side version. However the next time I played, the XBOX kept saying it didn't recognize the disk... I tried everything (and probably ruined the disk) and nothing worked. I don't want to rebuy the game, so I was wondering if someone would explain the dark ending. It's one of those things that bug you until you know (I'm not willing to spend another $20 though).
KOTOR: 2 questions (advice) and a quick K1 question
1. Items are randomized in the game. The chances of you finding only crap items are very very small. There are spots where finding really good items are much increased, for instance. This is not a make/break issue. It's not that big of a deal, you'll find. Also, you can use work benches to create and breakdown items. So this largely allows you to bypass many worries.
2. KoTOR2 is incomplete. The story was rushed and never implemented to its full potential. The ending is unsatisfactory and there are lose ends that will annoy the most upbeat player. However, it's still a good story, and a very engaging game. It's simply not as complete or fine tuned as the first game.
3. KoTOR1 is a more polished game. The worlds feel fresher, the NPCs are generally more engaging, and the story is more polished. The second game has a story that walks a more nuanced line, which aids many in preferring it. Ultimately, it has some very interesting characters and will cause you to question many of your dark side or light side inclinations.
The mini-games are more nuanced which some people like and others do not. Quite frankly, the second game is just not as good. There are NPC elements that are improved (the influence system is useful, the ability to train others to be Jedis is neat, the droids are much more developed and well used in the game) and, likewise, the implementation of new powers and prestige classes is generally well done. Likewise, KoTOR2 allows you to build items, and customize armor and weapons in a way that far exceeds the first game. This is a neat and useful feature. On the negative side, its much easier than KoTOR (which in itself wasn't hard). Ultimately KOTOR2 is not quite as satisfying as a game as the first one. If you enjoyed the first one, however, KoTOR2 is still worth playing. It's not an abomination of a game. It's just not as polished of a game. All things said, its still an enjoyable ride.
4. I think if you loved the first one, this is a must have game. And, I imagine that KOTOR3 will pick off where KoTOR2 left off. So you'll want to play all three.
As for whether you should buy it now or wait; if you can wait until it gets cheaper its probably good for your pocket book to do so. However, if you're looking for a solid RPG, grab it. It's enjoyable, just not quite as good as the first one. The game is approximately the same length as the first one. It may be a bit shorter, but not by much. It's about a 40-50 hour game, depending on how much time you spend on the mini-games.

The game is certainly not short. The bad point is that it really feels rushed, especially when you're at 75% or so. Some good points are that it's generally more balanced (skills are more useful, ranged weapons are too) and that items are much more customizable to which style of play you like.
I'd recommend waiting until a decent patch is brought out which fixes the broken parts, and then buying. It saves you the frustration of knowing there's more, but not being able to access it (yet).

I think you should buy Kotor 2, but with the expectation that it is not as good as the original.
The greatest failure of Kotor 2 is that it is incomplete. However, I don't think that this is something that would be fixed by any future patch since:
1) Such a patch would be an admission that the game is incomplete.
2) It will demand a huge amount of work. The endings, several intrigue, the romances will all have to be fixed.
3) It is not possible to patch the X-box and PS2 kotor 2 games, hence one platform will be clearly superior, which will make the admission of sloppiness even more painful to admit.
Still, if you liked the original, Kotor 2 IS worth buying, and there are some improvements as well, notably in the skills and the mini-games.

X-box live can update games. I do not know about the PS2.. I didn't think they got it....
I love the game.. I find it better ((not in building wise don't sue me)) then KOTOR I just because of all the new things.. with one i always knew what i wanted.. with two.. I don't... There is too many nice things that they added, and even if you hate or love the game, you -cannot- dis on the items.. no matter what, do you get bad drops? sometimes, can you just make better things? OH YEAH. So, love it or hate it you have so many different ways to make your PCs. who cares about the plot. most games are the same((Ending mind you)) fill in the blanks with what you think would happen.
All in all its a great game, but if your short on money, wait. or play it at a friend house.
