Which other games do BG-fans like?
This topic has actually not much in common with Baldur's Gate, but I hope that Stilgar and the guys will have mercy and let it excist. The board just seemed a bit empty, and I'm curious what other games you people like, besides Baldur's Gate. It doesn't have to be RPG's (though of course it's allowed) and can be any kind of computer or console game.
Computer: I am a big fan of No One Lives Forever, but I also like Desperado and Stronghold (though I find that one hard). I always like Icewind Dale at the start, especially when you can create your own team, but it get's boring and annoyingly tough while getting further and further.
Console (SNES): Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country 2 & 3, Terranigma, Secret of Evermore, Chrono Trigger, Lufia and Starwing.
I'm considering buying No One Lives Forever 2 and/or Mafia. Does anyone have any experience with these games?

The only two genres that exist for me is RPG (not that mmorpg-stuff) and Strategy. I either want the story, feeling, character, laugh and everything that good RPGs offer me, or a real challenge where you can never become good enough and there always is some way to improve. So, well, to list a few eternal games;
Planescape: Torment
Final Fantasy VII - X
StarCraft
WarCraft II, III
Grim Fandango
Unreal Tournament
HOMM II, III
These are games that I can't have enough of (together with the obvious Bhaalspawn series). And yes, there's one adventure and one Shoot 'em up, but every genre has their expectations.

omg, are you the same oopah that dwelled on the pbg forums before?
anyway, my favourite games besides BG 1 & 2 are:
Planescape: Torment
Neverwinter Nights (with all 3 expansions)
Championship Manager 3 - 02/03
Fallout 1&2
Worms2
GTA (all of them)
Blood
Doom
Duke Nukem 3d
the EA sports NHL games

Well, now you're just making stuff up, you stupid shaved monkey.
Mafia is an excellent game, I highly recommend it. The graphics look amazing even by todays standards. The storyline and cinematics are nothing short of outstanding. A true homage to all cult gangster films and books.
Other fave games include: Deus Ex (excellent RPG)
Simcity 4
playing Planescape Torment at the mo (going well )
GTA3
Ultima VII
Half Life 2
Bit hard to list many as I'm not at home and near my games collection
As you can see I have quite a varied game selection, but RPGs are always a soft spot. Just most have been rather dissapointing recently

Um, I hope not, but I'm not sure to what you're refering. "Pbg forums"? Could you be a bit more specific about this case?

Ah, I sadly must confirm that that is indeed a different Oopah. Having more than one person adopt that name makes it seem that it's the right season for that exploding ogre from the south...

a cool coincidence indeed... and being an exploding ogre seems like quite an interesting path to go... and you sure look fearsome with that morning star in your hand...

Wow, lets start with the games that don't even com close to BG:
Worms series... I've been playing since the beginning
Thief... once again the whole series
Tomb Raider... haven't played the newer ones but there's supposed to be a new one coming out that looks pretty good
Splinter Cell... it's like a modern incarnation of Thief.... and once again entire series
Warcraft I, II, III
Now as far as RPGs go:
Planescape: Torment
Morrowind
KOTOR... haven't played the second one yet
Arcanum.... highly understimated game
Lionheart... also an understimated game
Fallout.... CLASSIC
I just wish I had the time to play them all.

My favorite games are as follows:
BG1 and ToTSC - No need to explain....
Icewind Dale - Good game, I love the setting and wish the storyline was a bit deeper but still really enjoyable.
Thief - Only the first as I have not played the others yet, but the first was great.
Medal of Honor "Allied Assault" - I'm a war gamer! I love strategy, honor and history so any chance to be a part of it, I try and take.
Rising Sun/Western Front - When I first bought the game I thought the format would bore me, but Rising Sun broke all my expectations! I was stuck for weeks on that one!
Jedi Outcast 2 - Loved that game! The Force powers and battles were integrated extremely well, quenched any/all curiosity of what it would be like to be a Jedi.
And last but definately not least....
Mafia (PC version) - The quests and storyline were very linear, but the world was still very large and very engaging. While linear, the storyline drew you in and kept you playing. This game did for mobsters what Jedi Outcast did for Jedi, it quenches any curiosity of what it may have been like to be a 1930's self-made mobster! Great!!

Mitch:You know, um, something strange happened to me this morning... Chris Knight: Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?Mitch: No... Chris Knight:Why am I the only one who has that dream?
My favorite pc games in random order:
Baldur's Gate I and II (obviously)
Normality (old, very underrated game)
Dink Smallwood (I guess no one heard of this one, it's cool though, and modding is great and easy)
Doom I and II (classic!)
Unreal (only the first one, which was grrreat)
Heroes of Might and Magic III (neverending lasting appeal)
Consoles:
All Zelda's (no explanation necassery, I'd hope)
Secret of Evermore (I enjoyed this one way more than Secret of Mana, strangely enough)
Terranigma
Perfect Dark
Advance Wars
Super Mario
..a lot more..

Hehe, I know this game too. Bought it last september on a market for 50 eurocent...
The game has its interesting points (wacky enemies, occasionally funny jokes), but was all by all rather dissapointing for me. Probably because of the meagre graphics, the polyphonic music (though I liked the use of classical work) and the not really deep story line.
I got to the big boss at the end, and also had the special bow, but he just didn't die! How do you defeat him?
By the way, great that you know Secret of Evermore and Terranigma. These games are true Nintendo classics

My own list of hits: (besides BG 2)
Planescape!!! This one RULES! Just Rules!
Thief 2: The Metal Age. Have you ever experienced a feeling that any move you make can lead to your death? When you are hiding in the dark corner of the room full of alarmed guards?
When this game came to a release, I found in internet an article: "How can a 33-year programmer be afraid of computer game?"
You will feel tension from the very first mission, and it will not let you go till the very end.
Warcraft 3. I'm just happy to kick those noobs on Battle.Net.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.
The World of Darkness, where sun is just an empty sound. Where slums stand next to the towers of financial empires...
Where the homeless search for the food in the trash containers... Where ladies in splendid dresses can be easily seduced...
How can an immortal creature, a vampire, be dead and feel the pain in the same time? You will have an eternity to find out...

Hehe, indeed, the game looks total crap, but there lies the challenge, to make a mod that looks nothing like the crapness of the original Dink
How to defeat him? I dunno, I just whacked him with the Light sword. The fire bow is good too, but pretty difficult to handle. Just stock up on healing potions and you'll get him eventually (note that the boss' face is the face of the game's programmer )

In particular, the thing that attracted me most to the Baldur's Gate series was the lively world and engaging storylines. So I look for other games with those elements.
Of somewhat older RPGs (by recent standards) I loved Planescape Torment . While it's certainly not for everyone, it remains one of the most interesting and stimulating RPGs ever made. Likewise, the Fallout series was a favorite of mine. One of these days I'm going to give Arcanum a whirl, as I hear its in the same basic genre.
In terms of more recent RPGs, I'm a fan of the KoTOR titles; which while not as challenging as the BG titles, have compelling stories and in depth character interaction. I love Vampire: Bloodlines which combines lively and interesting environements, entertaining combat, a compelling central story, and creative use of storytelling. It's a very good game. I liked Neverwinter Nights and its expansions, though I found it to be a pale imitation of Baldur's Gate. Still, I got a lot of mileage out of it and found it much superior to IWD and its sequal.
I've enjoyed other story-centered RPGs for consoles like the Sukodien titles and Jade Empire, as well. Some of the Final Fantasy titles are good, as well (particularly enjoyed U.S. II, III, VII, and Tactics).

I like all kinds of different games.
Strategy and RPG's are ok, but action/adventure, shoot'em up, survival horror and fighting games are my thing. I also like NBA Ballers, Street Hoops, and all kinds of X Games type of video games such as Matt Hoffman Pro BMX and shtuff like that.
I think that Def Jam: Fight for NY will remain as my new favorite game for awhile. I've rented it, re-rented it and now I'm still waiting to buy it. Meanwhile my gf bought Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance at a local pawnshop, me and her conquered it in a couple days. We liked it and now we want to get part 2.

I never thought I'd meet people with with such a similar taste in games. I agree with some people's choices of Worms, Diablo II and my old SNES games - Zelda 3, Donkey Kong Country, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, NBA Jam TE, NHLPA 95 (!), Chrono Trigger (on emulator). I'd add some personal choices:
TIE Fighter - my favourite game of all time
Sam and Max Hit the Road
Shogun - Total War (I got Rome recently too, but I've just left home and it won't run on my laptop. Oh well, back to Shogun then. )
I look forward to playing KOTOR someday too. FPSs on the other hand don't seem to interest me (Half Life, Far Cry, Quake, Doom, etc make me yawn) although I enjoy Call of Duty and had some fun with Jedi Knight and then Jedi Outcast.
