Fantasy character names

Post by Brynn »
Last name is easy to make by just using words of nature, elements etc.
Now this is what causes me the most trouble... I just cannot think of any name that would sound OK after "Brynn"... The best I could borrow was Taliesin (she's a celtic (?) goddess of magic)...

Any good ideas how to name a human female mage?

It depends on if you want a name of some god, after you speciallity, intressts or something else.
Onoir and Kano if my favorite last names. :D
I will think a little. Perhaps I will get more ideas *braindead*

So you use Brynn as his first name right? Taliesin sounds excellent IMO... but how do you play that character? Is she Bombardier, buffer or something else... Using electrical spells she could be something like Lightstorm, Sparkleflower.. although the latter suits bettre for halfling.... :D If she is a bombardier.. using some powerful words would be great, just like Storm,Thunder etc.

Dawnwind would be good also and IMO sounds good with Brynn ;)
Warrior names are always the easiest to make..... Malcandre Lionstar for Paladin etc. Sometimes I just create characters with different skills and feats and make good names for them :) It´s just so fun.... But just off topic, as I thought some animal related names one thing came to mind, can you tell me what kind of animal is an owlbear in IWDII? I laughed my ass off when I first saw that name. Is it a bear taht looks like an owl

Um, ok, a short description of her: :)

She's a good girl in genereal, but will throw fireballs at anyone who talks back to her without thinking twice. She will always defend her friends to the very end. Group interest always comes first, but she never tolerates anyone hurting her pride. Usually ready to initiate battles that nobody in their right mind would take on, the more powerful the monster the more excited she gets about defeating it.

Electricity is not her strength... Fire magic and her personal charm are the two things she usually relies on :) Prefers killing her enemies without touching them.

Hmmm... interesting. Maybe that personal charm-thing could be related to some flowers like roses etc. Using words that describe fire also. and that flower could be something that survives even in harshest of climates as She seems to be quite an survivor and a hard case herself, but still a woman.. Fragile, but strong :) which portrait are you gonna use? Hmm.. I need a moment of thought with this

Sure, take your time, I've been thinking about it for ages already anyway. Played BG1 and 2 too with the same char, and now playing her in WoW as well :)

The portrait I'm gonna use (in IWD, NWN and BG) is a custom portrait, made by Astafas of own of my photos.

Okay... thanks :) My brains are not working at all today... We had a little party weekend here and so on... Hmm..
One of mine characters has a name Fireflower.. Maybe you´d like to use that or something... Others than that, Amaron came to my mind just now... Not a flower or fire, but suitable for human I guess and sounds little noble. Although maybe a little boring since it means nothing.. Better for first name. This is getting tricky... Definately it has to be something beautiful to make it suitable for your portrait. More thinking needed.. I´m back soon. Oh and could you tell me What kind of names do you like? It would surely help...
Okay... thanks :)
Hey, that's my line :)

Well, I somewhat got used to Taliesin already, but it doesn't sound that good alone. What kind of names do I like..? Dunno, anything that sounds good with Brynn :) (I know that's a lot of help... :D ). Flowers or flower-like names suggest a fragile person imho, so I would exclude those.

Thanks for taking time :) it's really not urgent. You don't have to come up with anything if you don't want to, I can still use Taliesin if nothing better comes to anyone's mind :)

This are my sugestions:
Cryso - rose
Kano - toarch
'Anon - flower
Kyorli - watcher
Chath - fire, flame

And....hmmm...well.... Brynn Shander? lol* :p
I will write if I'll get some fresh ideas ;)

No flowers then.... I really like this topic so my time surely isn´t wasted ;)
Creating and naming characters is fun and rewarding so no prob. with that. And if I can help others the better :) As many have helped me here also, to make my gaming experience more enjoyable.

Well... Does that name need to mean something or not? And can it be from real life or mythologies of different cultures on earth?
Have you tried that name generator?

Well, if it has a meaning, the better, but I don't mind if it doesn't mean anything.

Sure, an already existing name is OK. For exapmle, I named several characters after moons of the solar system :) I loved the names Deimos (my priest) and Andrastea (I guess I called my sorc or ranger like that).

You mean the one in the Useful Links? Yes, it was even worse than NWN's :p

Fireshadow, Firewalker, Dawnbringer... something....When I thought of some more traditional fantasy names like for example your Taliesin or Balinor or whatever there is... I came up with so many ideas that I can´t even remember them all, the possibilities are endless.. just example Talinor and Baliesin are mixed names of them both so with thousands of names this could take days :D Brynn Dawnbringer sounds cool IMO.. lol... Do you need only one name? Any other party members?

Those names were cool, especially Andrastea... And still you have problems with names ;) Using latin names of stars or plants is a good idea btw.. hmm...interesting.

That generator surely wasn´t very innovative in some areas....

It came straight from my obsession for stars and planets ;)

I liked them too but I found them more fitting for other chars... :)

Yeah.. I know, I have similar obsessions, but never thought of using those as a names for my characters. :) I really love the stars and sky.. Maybe I make some new names for some of my characters. Thanks for the idea btw :D

Sunwalker, Moonshadow, Stardust.... few examples of that area... Where did you get that Taliesin name? From some book perhaps?

I usually take my characters' names from old history text books, especially my wife's music history text books. So most of them have been named after actual people- my BG2 character was a bard (skald kit) named Oswald von Wolkenstien after a 15th century German song writer.

I could not resist to post at this thread. A couple of me own ideas to give you some heart laddy. 'Brynn Feurer'. Sounds wierd huh, itz german for fire. Get a good old german to english dictonary and you willl have some new words other than latin. Fire alarm = 'Feurermelder'. Or how about this, firewood = 'Breenholz'. This I like, Brynn Breenholz. Hmmm.

How about Brynn Fearfire, = 'Brynn Angstfeurer'. Or Fire feast = 'Feurerfest'.
That is a little to cool now U think. Feurerfest yaaa.
Or here is some good words, Lich means light so how about 'Brynn Lich' or 'Lichfield' or 'lichfeld in german'. Or 'Lichfeurer', = fire light. 'Ashe' means ash from fire or 'Esche' means from tree. 'FeurerAschfahl' means fireashen.
'Brynn Oblivious'. 'Brynn Oblive-ion'. 'Brynn scorge of "some wierd land', 'Brynn Herronous Patriarc of 'some wierd land, god or cult'.

I've had some wierd names like one called just the Lieutanant. Quazar. Nova. (that might not be bad, Brynn Nova). One I like to role play was Auireland. Cros from Ireland and Auril. The Artic rainbow she was, she had a white streak in her hair after completing the game X1. After heart of Fury she was long dread white locks. Kind of 'rougeish' charactor after the X-men chick with hair. Actually a Bard/Ranger. High Pictor is another. Little Bams, halfling barbi/cleric of Lothander. Rhetoric, this would be a great invoker. The mate of Icewindales bride's Auireland, name is Helmyth. Dwarvin Draxe Stonegaurd. Halfling Childs Hildebranch. Druidess, Nowplyus. Others from IceWind One would be Friigga, or Loki both cold hearted folk. Freylitch. Umberlee. Alish. Balin of Clover. One of Many elves (?). Clanddelin. Roelanda. Most have only one name, so brief it was fun. Enjoy it.

Brynn I have a "name generator" program, but due to the size of the zip file (450k) I can't attach to this reply.
If you like I can send it to you with an e-mail, but I need your adress.
