Ring of Surroundings

Hey all, ok here is my situation. I was asked by one of the gaurds, can't recall who, to kill a scout, thief, pawnbroker, and a savant. Well I did that and have recieved the Ring of Surroundings. When I equipt it and try to use it it does nothing that i can see, so I ASK WHAT THE HELL DOES THE RING OF SURROUNDS DO??? <-- sry for shouting, just frustrated!

try bringing up the info on the items or weapons menus. it should tell u what it does and the value of it.

Ok, looked into it and found out the the ring used on self causes 10 - 30 % chameleon. So, i makes me wunder.... I KILLED FIVE FREAKING PPL AND THE EMPRORER GIVES ME THIS.....(the ppl i was instructed to kill by him)

The ring of surroundings isn't the worst item in the game. But sometimes the freedom in Morrowind can work against you. I remember doing the quest you mentioned fairly late in the game, I was pretty high level and loaded with powerful weapons and items, so the ring of s. wasn't a great reward for me either.
Btw, do different spells of chameleon stack? If so, you can combine the power of the ring with the ring of shadows or something.
Spoiler: if you want a really good ring of chameleon search for a small pond near Ald Velothi. And keep your eyes really open.

As to the pond, where is it? I searched and searched and could never find the damn pond, can someone mark it on a map or something for me?

There's a woman in a blue dress standing near the pond. The pond is on the road from Gnisis to Ald Velothi.
