Are you sure that poll was there a few minutes ago? I haven't slept in days so I could just have missed it...but I didn't see it earlier.
I like rock, I'd have to say that because from the original classic rock, through most of the genres it has broken off into in the past few decades as well happens to fit my mood most of the time. I grew up on Zepplin, Floyd, AC/DC, Sabbath, Nazareth, Skynard, etc., and I still love the music. I've moved onto hardcore and the occasional metal and "alternative" (non-pop types) bands yet rock & roll to me just has endured and it gets me going whenever I hear it.
You can have love songs, angry and mean songs, party songs, fun songs, amusing songs and songs that tell stories all in the one genre and it's the kind of music that will make you want to get up and move to it. I just love that about it.

I voted for classic beacuse I thought that it would also cover classic rock, some of the newer rock is not all to great, IMHO.

I agree to that. The new rock is just.. loud. I don't know how to explain it, but it seems a lot of shouting. This sort of goes against what I said in my earlier music thread, but I also don't think these modern rockers really have fun screaming their lungs out, IMO. I wouldn't know though.

I just realized I spelt "favourite" "favourtie." *sigh* That's gonna haunt me. Um.

I mean all the bands like Good Charlette and green day, switch foot you know, others like Marilyn Manson and KoRn, have an even more better point of view of Rock than others.

I thought so, but wasn't sure.
The newer "rock" bands fall into all sorts of categories. I don't mind the screaming, so long as the people doing the screaming do so in a manner in which the lyrics they wrote are presented in a clearly understandable manner. Death metal and such where it sounds like someone is skinning and beating wild animals and recording the noises they make for lyrics I can't stand. What's the point of writing, and singing lyrics if they aren't sung in a manner others can understand?
The "loud noise" concept, I view as a defunct one. If you don't like it, fine. However, there IS talent and thought behind a good deal of the bands that play such music. Some of the things the musicians can do today with their instruments is so far beyond what they were doing 30 years ago it's just amazing. They are playing things far faster and more complicated together. I still love those throwback bands that occasionally come out with the same flavor and style of the rock bands from the 60's and 70's though. Simple isn't always bad, it can be great fun to sing to.

Yeah like that one song, I don't even remember the name of the band or the song but it goes like
For the day I die I pour my heart out for you!!! Man I hate it beacuse all the lead singer does is just scream in a high pitched voice and sings at the same time. Also I listened to a song on Yahoo, by some other young artist Jesse McCartney, and it made no sonce, all he kept on saying was she;s no you, she was just on some magizine model if I could I would have you on there beacuse you better abd prettier than all the rest she's no you blah blah blah, Just shut up and die!!! I think that the newer bands should have to go through some kind of tutorial and should be taught by some of the greats.

I personally like blues, and if I'm in the right mood scat singing too. My brother is quite good at that I must say, not to mention dancing as well.
One thing I love about the music I pick out, a lot of the newer stuff, has an emotional edge to it you can't find in most of the older music. It's personal, an expression of the lyricists self, sung to music that fits wonderfully with the emotions attached to the lyrics. For example, if you ever listen to the band "Flaw" you'll see what I'm talking about. It's considered "hardcore" or hard rock, depending on who you talk to, the guy can start screaming. Yet he can sing pretty well too, and it's not just nonsense he's made up. He's pulled things directly out of his past to sing about, allowing those who happen to NOT be fortunate in their lives and be happy all the time to have songs to relate to as well.
I really cannot relate to a lot of the songs in many genres. The lyrics involved with them just don't sit well with me. I have no connection, no emotional pull towards them and I generally disregard them for that reason.

Haha Mag I want to meet your brother!
Again to the blues thing, if you've ever heard "Georgia on My Mind" by none other than Ray Charles, you can hear in a few lines, Ray actually sounds like he's going to start crying. Also, in "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" (both songs in Song Lyrics thread
) by Marvin Gaye, he sounds really angry because his girl just cheated on him.
I prefer bands or song writers who write about life experiences, whether it's your best friend passing away or you getting a promotion at work. You can usually tell when this is, unless the singer is a really good actor.
The new rock comment I agree with, for most of the time. IMO, you don't see many pop or (especially) techno artists who make you want to sob or yell or cheer.

Marvin Gaye and Ray Charels, some of the great and classicals. I like I heard it through the Grape Vine. wasn't it a theme song a commercial about Raisins or something?

Everyone loves my brother for his dancing, it's scary. The bad thing is when we get drunk together and party.
It's just bad.
Yes, the whole pop genre gets to me. I don't have money, I don't like cars, I don't like pink, I don't like malls, I don't dig fashion and I could care less about the rest of the stuff they sing about. Yeah, it can be catchy, and get stuck in your head, but I just get this feeling it's mostly "well, what can we sing about that will get stuck in kids heads because they find it attractive and cool?" or they start writing songs just because they want to do a video with sex appeal. It's irritating to me.
I love both of those songs by the way.
Although, I have to say Creedence Clearwater Revival did I Heard It Through the Grapevine better.

Once again, I agree.
Pop, IMO, has been turned evil by Britney Spears. Especially the "Toxic" video. *shudder* It started off with a few innocent Pepsi commercials but NOOOO...
For me, pop is just kind of la de da I love him but he ditched me la. Some is okay, I guess, but most of it is too ehhhh for me.

I can't stand her, no, my problem with pop music goes way back. The problem is, record labels form bands just to make money and work the public. Look at the Spice Girls? Weren't the Monkey's one of those boy bands tossed together just to sell records? Backstreet Boy's and N'Sync? They may have talent, but in reality, it comes down to "who's attractive and can sell songs about sex/love to create an instant hit".
I LIKE the love songs that are sad, and painful. Why? Because when I need a song about love most, generally, my love life is really crappy at the moment and need something to relate to. Love isn't always happy, a good love song doesn't have to be one of those "everything is perfect and so are you" type deals. How about the fact you screwed up and it doesn't work out sometimes no matter how much you love the person, or just a need to relate how your feeling when your frustrated you know?
All in all, I think rock in its various forms portrays a very wide variety of moods and I love it for that. I can go to sleep to it, party to it, be happy to it, be mad to it, everything. Yet, when it all comes down to it, you can still jam out no matter the tune.

I voted 'other', because I'm crazy about film soundtracks, especially scores - they can be all sorts of things and don't really fit a genre. They just take me to another place. It's like having a music video stored in your mind, and watching it whenever you hear the music.
Give us the gate key.
