To Paladin or Not To Paladin?
To Paladin or Not To Paladin?
I have a Paladin in my party and I read in the walkthrough that if I accept any quests in the Temple my Paladin will fall. Does that mean I cant finish the game? Is it worth it or should I just switch classes before I enter the temple? It seems like I wont be able to enter or unlock certain levels if I cant accept the quests...anyone know the answer?
Thanks....

No, you can DEFINITELY finish the game. You'll just have to kill the high priests and go down further. The priests are evil, so your Pally must partake in bringing the wrath of righteousness down upon them! After that, you just keep descending farther down into the temple, further eradicating the corrupted inhabitants and rescuing prisoners.
However, there is one quest you can do for a priest of the Temple, as long as you wait to fight the high priest. Highlight for spoiler, and please do not quote this part as it will be partially revealed in such.
On level 2, you can do a quest involving two Fire Temple priests named Tubal and Antonio without having your Pally fall. It's somewhat of a simple "get an item off of one for the other" type of quest. The initiator of this quest will clue you in as to how you can complete it.

Having a Pally will in no way prevent you from finishing the game. All you have to do is walk down the right staircases. You can get to the bottom easier and more quickly by doing the quests, but you'll probably want to clear out the temple anyway, so it really won't save you any time. What's more, you won't miss out on any items (IIRC), so all you miss out on is a little bit of experience and a bit of fun pitting the evil guys against one another. The only game component you'll miss is the ogre cave, which appears on your world map only if you get the quest from Alremm in the fire temple. It's just a handful of ogres with no treasure to speak of, so don't worry about it. You're not missing much.

Have enjoyed playing my Paladin
Although it meant not being able to do some of the quests, I am enjoying the benefits of having a paladin in the party. Lot of pluses in skills and feats (that I like anyhow). Presently, I am about to start level 2 of the dungeon under the temple. I agree with Lord Plothos, there may have been a couple of things I missed out on, but it hasn't dampened my fun. In fact this saves a little something new to discover and strategies to try when I go through the next time.
