Yavin base items
Yavin base items
ive never been to that Yavin base on the PC version of KOTOR, i guess all thats there is a rodian that sells the "best items" and plays pazaak. has anyone been to the base and bought items from that rodian dude? Ive always just found my items of at the end of the game I bought them from that rodian guy in the Korriban bar. (constitition implant +4, that really good belt that gives +2 dex and +4 to all saves, some dex +4 implant, dominator guantlets, etc.) thanx in advance.

The rodian in the Korriban bar has good stuff, but the one at the Yavin space station has the Heart of the Guardian and Mantle of the Force lightsaber crystals. I definitely found those worth buying, as they enhance the effects of certain crystals, as well as make your lightsaber cool colors.
'Organic meatbags?'
yeah, the Yavin Base also has the best suits of armor (the exoskeletons, for example) as well as an amazingly powerful vibrosword and a couple of ridiculous repeating blasters that will make Zaalbar or Canderous every bit as dangerous as your Jedi characters. There are a couple of other very useful items there, but those, along with the two saber crystals, are the ones that really change the game.
there were some nice items in Yavin, whoa!! I didnt buy any though, they felt overpowered. In my dark side party i just gave canderous the fully upgraded calo nords armor and gave him a sith assassin pistol and some other one i found, trust me, hes better with two pistols than the repeater, or you could just give him a sword...... i gave bastila a clone of darth revans robes. (oops) i didnt really need the items either but hey.......going overkill on malak is always fun .

I agree that the items do seem a little overpowered in comparison to pretty much everything else in the game, but that's what elite item shops are for.
Also, I have to respectfully disagree that Canderous is best with two pistols - if you upgrade either the assault gun or the heavy repeater with all the options, their damage is roughly doubled (a grand total of 7-46 damage for the heavy repeater, increased to 9-48 with weapon feats) which makes them equal to even the most highly upgraded LIGHTSABERS, which is more than enough to put any two pistols in the game to shame (even the most powerful pistols - Saul's Assassin pistol and Cassus Fett's blaster - are almost exactly half as powerful, but if you factor in rapid shot you aren't getting twice as many shots by using both of them, you're getting three shots, one with a -2 penalty, versus two shots with no penalty using the heavy weapons.
The thing that makes the high end pistols useful is their ability to stun, so if that's what you're going for, then by all means stick with that, although with a DC of 10 to stun you have to be lucky to get many stuns later in the game.
However, if you're looking for straight up damage, the repeaters are without a doubt the way to go.

i guess your right, but i still prefer the pistols anyway. In the Star Forge, he seemed to get more kills for my party dual-wielding pistols. Its a personal preference i guess.

I turned Canderous into a melee monster, and on one of my two games, he was in the party of three to the very end. Easily held his own, but of course, that's against enemy AI so bad that it left me in awe.
Yavin was the place to go for the best items, IMO, and not just for the crystals. But in any case, there was so much ridiculously good loot simply scattered around everywhere that the game should have come with a Monty Haul warning.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Ha! LOL! I agree. The really confusing thing for me was the placement of some of the items in the game- ie- you get the best set of light armor (Fiber armor), medium armor (Calo Nord's), and even heavy armor (Casius Fett's) way early in the game. The Fiber armor is so early it is almost silly.

They are early, and they are good, but I wouldn't go so far as to say all of them are the best.
First off, Calo's armor is heavy rather than medium, though I guess it is the best heavy armor in the game. Maybe you were thinking of Davik's armor, which is medium and found quite early - and is pretty good, though not the best. As for Cassus', yes, you find it fairly early, but it's so ridiculously expensive that you probably won't want to buy it until much later.
In terms of light armor I'd say that Bandon's suit and two of the suits at Yavin (the Baragwin Shadow armor and light exo-skeleton) are better than the Echani fiber, and the light exo-skeleton is the best.
As for medium, the best is definitely the somewhat inappropriately named heavy exo-skeleton, also found at yavin.

Mea culpa. I couldn't remember if Calo's was heavy or med, so I guessed- thanks for the correction.
That said, Bandon's armor is better, but only very slightly, (Cold resist vs. Immunity:Mind). Consequently, I tend to think of the Fiber armor as better because you get it so early (that, and you can sell Bandon's for much more than the Fiber armor, if I remember correctly).
In any case, you get the best light armor (imo) in the first hour of the game, some of the best medium armor (Daviks- only Jamon Hogra's is better) on the first planet, and access to the two best heavy armors in the first half of the game.
I have XBox w/out XBox live, so I don't have the Yavin items or the exoskeletons. Sorry about hijacking the tread...
(They do look really cool when I look at them here though)
