I have seen just one other instance of this issue on this forum but no resolution. Hope someone can assist.
I am able to click on the auto spend button so that it reads off...but I find the game is still spending my points. Would anyone be able to recommend a potential cause or fix???
Can't turn the Auto Spend off on my character sheet
This is an odd and rare bug that a few folks are getting shackeled with. From what I gather, turning auto-spend "on" might actually stop the game from spending your experience points. So you might try that and see if it works.
Likewise, you might also make sure you've got the patch and, perhaps, the unofficial patch 1.4 installed as well. I doubt they will solve the problem, but you never can tell. Finally, if none of that works, you'll be left with 2 real options - uninstall/reinstall and hope that fixes it or use the cheat console to spend the points the way you want.

In my version of the game (german), you can only turn the auto level on/off at the chacracter cheet. Now, on the character sheet, it says "turn auto level ON" when it is turned off, and vice versa. The first time i visited the sheet I was a bit confused as well, as i only saw the "autolevel ON" and thought it was giving me the status quo, instead of the result of a potential selection. Ok, I seem to have the talent to phrase things more incomprehensibly than konfuzius, but you get my point; it is the other way around.
Thanks for the suggestions.
One other thing I notice is that after I save my game and return to the character sheet, Auto Spend is switched ON. So needless to say, it is driving me a little crazy.
I will certainly try and switch it ON to see if it makes a difference. I am Australian so I guess I would probably have the US version of the game(?)
I have already applied the patch for version 1.2 but am reluctant to apply 1.4. The word "unofficial" sort of makes me apprehensive. Has anyone tried the patch? I am curious to hear some feedback.
I was thinking I might try a reinstallation, but after I complete my current game.....
After all.....I still have another 13 characters to take for a test run....

I've tried the unofficial patch and not experienced any problems with it. Of course, I didn't experience any major problems during my unpatched playthrough either, so.... Anyway, I doubt it addresses your problem anyway.

I've had to uninstall and re-install in the middle of a game. You don't have to lose your characters. There's a point in the un-installation process where you will be asked if you want to delete "all data files" or something similar. Choose "no" and your save folder will remain intact. Conversely, you can copy your save folder to another place on your hard drive and copy it back to the correct place after reinstallation. Either way, you don't lose your characters.
Death awaits you with nasty, sharp, pointy teeth.
