Are you old enough to have enjoyed Hogan's Heroes as a kid? (I guess I'm dating myself here ;) )
I didn't enjoy it, but I knew the show. I remember when I Married Joan and the Abbott and Costello Show were still new. :) 53, here.

... anyway, in the words of Sgt. Schulz - I know nothing, NOTHING ...

Heh. Still, it seems like a very good guess, given the way game corporations operate, especially among those that are managed through the Accounting Department.
very good guess
Not my point - when Schulz said it, he was actually trying to say that he knew but could not tell. I was trying to be subtle ;)

Schulz--subtle? I'll keep that in mind, in the future. We don't get many subtle posts, up here. ;)
Yep ... but in multiplayer there is no pause ...

In fact, due to an obvious oversight, your health regenerates in menu pause mode. So you can hit esc to survey thescene and heal up a bit. Of course, the enemies tend to gather when you do that.
Tend to gather...? How about dozens gathering if you have other tasks to attend to? Seems like another item for Heuristic Park to work on for their 1.2 patch. ;)

Gamer's Hell has produced its review. Frankly, it doesn't sound to me like they played it very much, because it reads entirely like a list of complaints up on the DreamCatcher boards--without any real sense of what the game is like. Still, you can find it, here.

Personally, I find many of the complaints justified, but the rating, and the tone of the review, is way, way over the top.

You must 'quit' to 'pause' the game ... which is, of course, rediculous - and hopefully will be patched. Also, notice that when you press 'save game' you are committed already, if you chose the wrong slow, too bad.

That's no review, it's a rant.

Agreed on both points, Mike. But I still don't come away with an impression from Gamer's Hell that the reviewer even played the title. With genuine reviews, you at least have a feeling for how the game plays, whether good or bad. You retrace the steps of the reviewer, who has just started out, getting the lay of the land, so to speak. Here, nothing.

My impression is that he played the demo and got mad, then got his review copy of the game and started, found things that are missing from promised additions or too much like the demo and went off the deep end.

I have put many, many hours in already:
- Have not crashed once
- All quests have completed
- ... and I'm using the unpatched version

While the reviewer makes several valid points, my impression is similar to yours. I, too, have not crashed once, nor have I received a quest that couldn't be finished. I think this was a dissatisfied customer from the start that sunk the review on purpose because of its apparent flaws. Now, I don't like bugs and the "incomplete" feel of the game either, but I don't think it deserved an overall score of 4.0/10 and a ridiculous 5.5/10 for its graphics.

I'm playing the game at 1600x1200 and it looks better than many other recent RPGs - not to mention it blows away the graphics of any Xbox game simply by taking advantage of the performance of a PC. On top of that, I can totally change the look of my character by donning different armor and using different weapons. Not many games have different textures for every single piece of equipment (all the way down to your belt!), nor do they have magical effects for a multitude of items - an undead slaying sword that glows with a golden light, a flaming sword, a hammer that fires lightning bolts, and a sceptre of evil that randomly fires a streak of energy to name a few.

I completely agree. The game hasn't crashed once for me (knock on wood). I think DreamCatcher may have just made a very bad decision in trying to force an excellent title out the door in a state that would frustrate quite a few players; and Heuristic Park compounded matters by blandly stating some features (like automapping) were removed in the interests of providing a more challenging RPG experience.

But the damage is done. The best thing to do IMO at this point is to get a 1.2 patch out there ASAP that adds basic functionality to uncompleted game aspects:

automapping
character customization
quest logging
professions balancing
items (NPCs, furniture, etc) in towns
empty chests in areas where there are supposed to be full ones

If the negatives don't draw attention away, the real qualities of (what's shaping up for me to be) a fine RPG can truly come through.

Gamespot's review is up...6.8/10...with pretty much the same pros and cons as have already been listed by you guys.
