Hi.
I am soloing with a mage/thief/fighter. From the start I gave him ++ on the xbow. To my big surprise I noticed way out in the game that the character prefer "Long Bow" as favourite weapon!?.
Why? Didnt I decide that his favourite weapon should be X-bow?? Especiall when he has got none +'s in any ranged weapon.
On the other hand I have lettin him try bow and flaming arrows to finish off some trolls, but does that mean that his "favourite weapon" is a result of his "artificial liking" of the bow? I mean, I thought I was the master of his likings, and that I DECIDE that his favourite weapon should be a result of my handmade construction of his beeing and my ruling of prof. ? Or what??
Longbow preferred!!??!!
Longbow preferred!!??!!

Favourite weapons/spells are the most used and not your chars making a conscious decision themselves. If you have asked your character to use a long bow (regardless as to where you have placed his proficiencies) and he has used a long bow on more occasions than a xbow - then that will be his favourite weapon.

Morfeus, I thought the favourite weapon statistic was decided by the weapon that character has been using most frequently to kill/injure enemies. (alternatively, it could be based on which weapon the character eart most experience with).
As you used the long bow to kill trolls ( assuming that was one of your earliest quests) then it may say that temporarily. As you use the xbow more, then this will become your char's fav weapon (or a melee weapon you use often).
Same sort of thing with spells... Edwin's favourite spell is "knock" in my game Hardly the most offensive spell in his arsenal, just the one he casts most often (soon to be overtaken by magic missile )

That is my question yes. I tried to decide that his favourite weapon should be xbow and NOT longbow. Cause I gave him extra skills in xbow an none xtra skills in longbow.
But the two answers I received makes sense. My hero has killed (finishing shot only) many trolls with arrows.
But on the other hand the conlusion (favourite weapon = Long Bow) is quite confusing. Cause all the dirty work has been done with other weapons.
Example. The most damage has been done with a (ranged) xbow and a little magic, and sometimes a trap. Then, when I cant keep the distance anymore, I change to shield and sword (or a flail) and finish the work. OR, I have started the fight with a solid backstab, and finished the job with a burning arrow, or burning/acid magic. (if it was troll).
So the conclusion, in my game so far, is that the most damage is done with everything else than a bow, the most kills are done with anything else than a bow, BUT maybe, the most valuable (final) kills may have been done with a bow.
In any case, maybe the favourite weapon should be masured by DAMAGE DONE, and none other measurement.
