Calo Nord was cool. Before I killed him, that is

My vote is for Calo as well.
I mean, Malak is very cool too, especially when you get to see him without the silly collar thing he has clamped around his neck and head (I kind of wish they had explained the story behind that)
However, right from the first time you see Calo in the Cantina, doing his counting to three routine, he's definitely one of the most badass characters in the game, good or evil. Sure, he's no match for a powerful Jedi, but he's still the most interesting and colorful villain in my opinion.

Also, if you throw in Evil Juhani, you should probably also add Evil Bastila, who was much cooler than Juhani, though not quite as cool as Malak or Calo.

One more thing, what about the party npcs? Of all the evil characters in the entire game, HK47 has to be the best, and Canderous is probably the deepest and most developed of the "bad guys" in KOTOR.

Parens welcome, because Canderous isn't evil: he simply represents a different culture. As for HK-47, he talks a good line, but I suspect he doesn't possess enough free will to be good or evil. He's only what he has been programmed to do. ;)

You can't be programmed to be "evil." You can only be programmed to perform a series of actions. ;) And for that matter, HK-47 doesn't even act evil in the game. He just does whatever you tell him to--so if anyone is evil, it's you! :D

This is all semantics, but while it may be impossible to program a droid to be evil, you can program a droid to perform actions that most would deem evil. And while HK-47 does whatever you tell him to do, he certainly makes it clear if he is pleased or disappointed by your commands. Anyway, the inital question was about dark side characters, which may be interpreted merely as what the game measures on the little character screen, with the red background behind the menacing portrait, in which case both Canderous and HK-47 would qualify.

And of the choices, Calo's definitely the coolest in my opinion: he's really short, he's got those goggles, and the counting thing was pretty badass:
Calo: Go away.
Me: Nice job handling those Black Vulkars.
Calo: One.
Me: Hey, I just wanted to talk.
Calo: Two.
Me: Alright, I'll leave.
Calo: Smart.

I'd love to discuss this issue with you, Bryn, but it really doesn't belong over here, and I shouldn't have brought it up. (Bad moderator! No bones for you!) Suffice to say, I feel self-intent matters greatly. If you want to continue, we can take this over to the SYM (Speak Your Mind) forum. If not, then fine. :)

I've no favorites in KotoR for this category, since the characters are garishly overblown and unrealistic, by my way of thinking. On the other hand, Kreia in KotoR2 is a wonderful example of evil: wisdom twisted to the uses of self.

It's true. The LucasArts KotOR website has a character page with a couple paragraphs of background for many of the characters, giving some information that I at least wasn't able to find in-game about people like Darth Bandon and Calo Nord, but they're still kind of cliche and shallow. Oh well, it's still a great game!

HK-47, 10 times out of 10! He's a fabulous character.

As an aside, how do you turn Juhani evil? I've tried in the past, but it never worked. Is there a good guide/thread somewhere?

Cuchulain, you should know to start a new thread about this. Besides, it's been discussed here, repeatedly. ;) Just do a search on her name. I know it's been covered several times since this forum was started.

Touche Fable, you're right. I'll do my own legwork. :)

(I thought maybe someone could chip in quickly with a personal experience, but I'll look through the old threads)

Hi, all. The best dark side npc by far is Malak, because he is so creepy, and down right evil. After all he totally wastes Taris, and tortures Bastilla. one bad ass man, who deserved his death, but he does go out with the most intresting line.
Skandaman, back from the dead, and now kicking butt again. Fear him for he's angry and fillled with sugar. Mmm sugar. :)

I have to agree with Fable on Kreia; she's my favorite baddie in both games. I don't think there was a place in KotOR II that I didn't drag her through with me if I could. And so many people in the KotOR II threads say they hate her. Phbt.

As for best dark side NPC in KotOR, you all forgot the best one: Revan. The whole story is based on Revan and how s/he took down the Mandalorians with his/her superior strategies and vicious, brutal assaults. Then a short time later, Revan turns around and wages war on the Republic after finding that unlimited source of ships. With the Sith fleet under Revan's command, they won almost every battle, and the campaign to take the Republic ran rather smoothly. Up until Bastilla gets Revan, anyway...

I'd definetly go for Candorous, evil or not, he is definetly the best character in the game! :D

And yes, I agree with fable, from an etnosentrentistic (sp?) view he is evil, but if you observe the mandalorian culture you'll see that he is only a mamber of his own society, not good nor evil ;)
