Has anyone read the Novel?
I was just in the bookstore and I happened to notice there was a "Baldur's Gate" as well as a "Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn" Novel on the shelf. I kind of laughed at it, picked it up and flipped to a random page, which just so happened to be exactly where I am in the game right now - talking to Adalon. It didn't look like it was any good, so I didn't buy it, but I was wondering if anyone on here has read it, and if so, what did you think?

Yeah, I (regretfully) bought the novels for BG1 and BG2:SoA. Both are ABYSMAL, I tell you. It wasn't just because of how it didn't exactly fit how the game would run, though. Philip Athans just seemed like a crummy descriptor of battle scenes and the like, leading to a rather dull experience in full.
I've heard that the novel for ToB is a bit better, and that it was written by a different author (although somewhat of a nobody). How much better, I can't say.

Dungeon Crawl Inc.: It's the most fun you can have without 3 midgets and a whip! Character stats made by your's truly!

A change in authors, can make all the difference.

They are amongst the worst books you'll ever find. It should be illegal to even sell them. For your own sake, leave them on the shelf and pick up Salvatore's and Cunningham's Forgotten Realms books instead.

Yes, and likely Ed Greenwood's as well.

Funny, those are actually the two authors whose books I did buy while I was there.

They are IMO by far the best authors in the world of Forgotten Realms.

Guys, this really isn't relevant to a discussion of the game. So I'm moving it to SYM (Speak Your Mind), our place for non-game discussions.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
