The guy in jail should have told you a password. You can use the password in the southern part of Fargrove to access the Slums District.

you can either use that list of recipes or head down to skuldoon and talk to the wylan shaman who has a decent collection of nether spells and components.
it'd be interesting to know whether there are some secret nether spells that aren't documented. it'd be fun to see what else one could concoct.

there are several recipes that can be found but are not listed in the guide. Most of them don't seem to work. The way the game is structured, you either buy spellbooks that will teach you the specific ingredients for that spell or you pick them up from chests or drops. The latter provides a poor return and like darkpark says, the shaman in Skuldoon is the guy to see about legitimately accruing recipes. the shaman has all but 2 or 3 of the katals too.
