The Moon Beasts

Post by LamerX »

For everyone who has asked or wondered what those moon bridges are for, for everyone who has whished to be powerfull, this is for you.
The moon beasts give a healty advancement bonus plus a gay moon stone
Jump in the lost lake (thats the lake north of Arindale), head to the cresent shaped island in its center. This is the isle of the moonbeast. You have basicly two options here.
Option #1
Stay within the rails of the temple on this island. The weak AI will jam the moon beasts into this railing where you can safely chop them up from the other side. Personaly, I am not a big fan of this approach, the cats sometimes will find their way into the shrine where they will rip you to shreads.
Option 2
deep on the island there are 2 bolders, one higher then the other. get on top of this bolder and wait. about 90% of the wandering monsters in this area are moon beasts. they will run right up to the rock and keep running, presumably to get closer (again, weak AI) just dice them up from above. *warning* they will, once in a while, manage to get up on your level and swipe you , be carefull.
Dont forget to grab the gay little moonstone to traval the stargate err, i mean moongate. How could i have mixed the two up?

Island summary
Could you explain how to get to this island? I can't find it.
Look at your world map. You will find Lost Lake in the very north east of it. There are two islands in the lake. The larger of the two has the moon beasts. It's most easy to get there from Arindale by heading north from the apothacary cross the river and continue north until it feeds into the lake, then swim a little bit east of due north until you hit land. You have to swim to the opening the deep bay on the north west of the island to find the only flatland on it. It's easy to get lost swimming around, so use the map and eventually you will find the spot.

Tips:
When you reach the island you can jump along its edges. This can be faster than swimming.

Avoid fighting the fish that will attack you. They are a pain and usually if you keep swimming they will not be able to attack you.

Each moon beast gives 18,406 adv points, so plan on staying there a while. Set monster spawn to normal or easy, unless you are prepared to face groups of up to 8 beasts (or more) at a time. On high, the beasts will often be joined by wolf packs too. This can be handled, but you need a pretty buffed character to handle this. The moonbeasts are one of the cooler creatures in the game, their AI is weak, this and the fact that they make the same sounds as wolves, dragons, and a ton of other creatures cuts down on their impressiveness.

If you plan to spend time on the island, make sure to take poison cure pots with you.

Not all moonbeasts will drop stones. You may have to kill several to get one. Then again, the first one may drop a stone. You can only carry one of these.

Finally, when you are ready to leave the island, head east to the northernmost part of Talendor and activate the moonbridge there. It is just north of the ruins, or if you canvas the very northern edge of the area you will find it.

The problem is... I don't have a map. If I install the pach I think I'll loose my saves. Maybe you could post a map here and mark that island? :)

EDIT: All right! Found it! Had to approach the island from north. I found moonbeasts before I even got there while I was swiming/walking on the edge of the land.
The other option how to kill moon beasts is to shoot them from water. They don't like getting wet I guess.

Safer way to kill these moonbeasts

They don't like water (must be really like cats)...sit in the lake near shore and kill em with your bow...did this when I was a low level....

they're aren't referring to the in-game map but to a seperate picture of the world. search the forum or check the DL section of gamebanshee to find the map than print it out.
