Fall-Down and die!

Post by Moonbiter »

I've got a major beef with the "new & improved" commercial banners that fall down into view whenever I log onto the forums. They are, of course, designed to avoid pop-up blockers, and as such are annoying enough. But since I run a pretty heavy firewall, they really hamper my interaction with the site. Case in point: When some (granted, not all) of them fall down, the page stops loading, the system slows down, and the text becomes compressed and looks like some acid-hippie-cyrillan font that is completely unreadable. Add to that the fact that the whole screen becomes compressed and unmanageable, like if I was running on a 386 pc with a 56bit modem, and this really gives me cause for concern. Could anything be done about this?

What browser do you use? I use Mozilla Firefox and I never saw any dropdown banners on GameBanshee. ;)

Bah, I have had the same exact problem, I try to just go around them but it wont let me, I try on click on a thread and all of a sudden it just goes to a pop up. I have some kind of pop up blocker I forgot wich though. I think that we might have to get some kind of special fitted pop up blocker or something.

Firefox is great, I've only had one problem so far with it. I don't get pop-ups, I control all the cookies I get manually and no drop down ad's either.

Are you referring to the top 728x90 ad in the forums? Or another ad on the main website? From what I've seen, the only time the advertisement will drop down is if you hover over it with your mouse. However, I use Internet Explorer almost exclusively, so it may just be something I just haven't seen yet.

Right now at a thread, there will just be like a triple x pop up that drops down or something, Also when I was lokking at the homepage there was also something that just dropped down for triple x or something like that.

I get them too, I'm using IE. The problem is that they will drop if your mouse goes into the area that they would be dropping to. Usually that's somewhere around the new thread button or first thread or so.

I exclusively use Firefox and Opera, and I've never experienced the problem either....

Flash Ads

I just want to jump in because I HATE the new Pepsi ad that comes up. I do most of my posting at work, and so my only option is to use IE. This new flash ad doesn't even have an option to close on my screen, and the pop-up blocker on IE doesn't catch it. It really blows.

Negative attention is attention too...

Luckily, I don't have these kind of problems at home. Could be Norton's Webassistent which comes with add-protection. Norton is a paid service. If you advertisers try to outmanouver Norton I'll sue you! :)
