Tomb of Souls and Voraatus
Tomb of Souls and Voraatus
Has anyone been able to get through his riddle regarding the order of the tortures?
I know that he can be killed, but does that ruin the quest?
i also noticed that if you opt to not reclaim vortugg's soul you can bargain to have one of your attributes significantly increased at the cost of other attributes. also, voraatus says that he'll also take something else but he doesn't state what that other thing is. Does someone know?

I'm stuck in a similar spot - I didn't even get to talk with him - he came out swinging - so I captured his eye or horn or something..
What's troubling me is that there is a room that is beyond a gate that needs a key that I cannot find - so I can't finish the dungeon entirely.
I _DID_ kill the boss (not sure if I was supposed to) and then talked with the watchers in the dungeon and took the spells offered.
Now I'm totally stuck as I go back to skuldoon and the leaderguy that sent me to do that in the first place is totally gone.
I went back to the temple of souls and tried everything again to no avail... Am I screwed?

it's in the northern steppes. if you head south from fargrove, follow the road upto lake dire. from lake dire, head north-west (more west than north).
i think i'm going to stop at this point and wait for the next patch. perhaps it might fix this.
the riddle doesn't bother me so much as losing all those attributes trying to guess it

mcbain,
**** spoiler alert ****
the key i think you mean might be the one in the water. when you cross the bridge and it collapses and you fall in the water there are actually chests down there - one contains a key. from memory that's the key required for the area with the wall statues that shoot flame - but the key hole isn't by the door. it's on the other wall.
hmmm... come to think of it, that may not be what you mean as i'm SURE you need to get through there to get to voraatus. what door is it you can't open?

Thanks for your reply - yes, that key is for the one with the 2 fire spouts in the walls...
The door I'm talking about is not needed to get to voraatus, however, it is off the same series of rooms.
If you are in the room that uses the sunlight to open a door, you head south (N would be to the wall spouts that shoot flames). if you hang a right at the first fork and then a left at the second, there's a door with a sarcofigus (no idea how to spell hehe) standing up on the other side. The door requires a key to get in, of which I havn't found.
What is troubling is that I didn't even get a chance to speak to voraatus (seemingly the best option according to most on the typhoon forums) - so I killer him.
Now I'm stuck - because vartuug or whatever his name is in skuldoon (who sent me on this journey is 'away on business'.
Did anyone else have a problem with this?
I'm going to go back a 3rd time if the typhoon forums dont come back (they've been down most of the day) and PRAY I can find what I'm looking for.
The odd part you are mentioning with the key you get from the chest in the water - the other 2 chests did 0.
Perhaps the key I need would be in one of those - the only problem is - I hit the button to raise the collapsed floor to get to voraatus. Oh well.
I hope I can figure this out - This is the 2nd major 'issue' I've had now in a few days in major quests.
*sulks*
Thanks for trying to help! I hope the answer can be found...

i'll see if i have a saved game to get back to that bit and check it out.
i MAY have the answer to why he attacked you though. he will only bargain with you if you kill those four demon things that appear in the four corners for the 'test' if you don't use anything that resotres help. otherwise you are not 'worthy'. i haven't confirmed that he will attack under those conditions (i did the fight without any restores) but it seems logical. typhoon is still down, as is dreamcatcher. this forum is starting to have more useful info than those two because they are both down so much

Just FYI - I DID defeat the 4 demons without healing.
After the fight I healed.
PERHAPS, this is the problem.
I used 2 of the lvl 9 celestial summons (god I love those) and let them take them out - I got scortched for 1/2 my hps - so naturally I healed after the watcher deamed me worthy.
After that, I hit the button that raises the dropped floor/bridge and then legged over to voraatus and while fighting things in the room - he popped out and attacked me.
I thought I was supposed to talk with him..oh well.
After he died, I went back to the watcher room and saw the 2nd watcher - he gave me 2 choices. I did them both (I saved before I chose) - and both give helpful items no matter what class you play... The 'steel' choice was a bit more helpful, though, for me (as I found an upgrade for my 'offhand' weapon).
After that, I left and made the trek to skuldoon.
I did find a small treasure room the 2nd time going back that opened.. it's the room between the first main room when you enter and the room with the eye of evil thingy that redirects sunlight.
Nothing special in those chests, really.
Out of pure desperation - I just went and retracked EVERYTHING in the tomb (3rd time) - I just gave up and will have to wait for the typhoon forums to come back - aparently this happened to someone else... Actually, I was just about to perform the search for the thread with details of how to advance the game - when they went down. Ah well.
I mapped EVERYTHING out to be safe I didn't miss anything - and I'm 100% sure I didn't.
The only weird thing is the tombs (sarcophogus or however you spell) in voraatus room are still closed (I dont remember if they opened the first time). His tomb is open, but the 2 flanking him are not. I think they DID open initially - but now they are closed again and about 15-20 minutes of messing around in the room yielded no results. I'm just trying to do all my due dilligence here so I don't waste anyones time.:> More information is always helpfull hehe..
Out of curiosity - going back to skuldoon is the next step, yes?
Also - these forums seem much more usefull than some of the others... More focused and less useless threads. Glad I stumbled on them.:>
I can't believe I copied over my save BEFORE I went into the dungeon (I've been doing this religiously - and I always seem to screw up and copy over it later - like when I will NEED it heh).

typhoon forums JUST went back up hehe.
Aparently I have to go to Talendoor to place some things somewhere. I have no idea what anyone is talking about - but hell - I'll do anything to keep this baby going.
Apparently what happened to me is a bug - although some disagree (jerks) - because there is no indication that you have to even be in the talendoor area to begin with at this point...
Odd.
I'll post an update if/when I get that jerk vartaag to come back.:> (I guess he has the 5th relic or something to complete it)

OK - here's the problem - I hadn't gone back to the chamber of souls in talendor (I TOTALLY forgot about it - it was a week ago since I was there) and placed the remainder of the power relics I had found. I THEN went back to skuldoon and he has given me the 5th and I can go into the black swamp.
Unreal that this is so not clear. I guess it is, but it's not reinforced since I got a few relics of power without having to go back to the chamber of souls (I think that is what it is called).
ANYHOW - I'm back on my quest! JOY.
Just FYI - I progressed my character to hatamoto (for 3rd rank) and paladin (2nd rank) along with samurai (2nd rank).
Hatamoto is horrible in that it's main skill only effects REALLY low level creatures at best (critical strike for 1 hit kills).
Thanks for trying to help! Glad I found my way around the issue - too bad it was the 2nd one that I had to wait 1/2 day to figure out almost:/.

heh. i just worked this out too. i hadn't placed the fourth relic, so vortagg didn't 'return' from his business.
anyhow, done that now, gone into the swamp, and into the maze. kinda mapped out the maze. easy, but the next bit is a little tricky, and after that it gtets VERY tricky - stuck there at the moment. all i can see is have to step on some patterns on the floor, and the right ones i assume open the gate. the thing is minotaurs are CONSTANTLY spawning and chasing you, so there are always about 6 of them. can't make it work yet...
this could take a while.

I know I propably missed something and stuff but... wtf should I do with the fiend agila or whatever its name. <srry if its really stupid question> I'm really getting pissed there... Beginning to think i should've worried bout some old quests not dissapearing from the log earlier?!?! I still have the quest 'to give the letter to someone in arindale' in log.
Really could use some help.
Really could use some help.
JP: the letter from aliester you can ignore since you probably already did that when you were in fargrove. this is another bug in which the quest doesn't disappear from your log even after you complete it.
so regarding the tomb of souls what is the final verdict here? is it okay to kill voratus and head back to skuldoon to continue my mission? i don't have any relics of power on me since i already took them to talendor. based on my dealings with voratug, once i return he should return elllowyn to me? if he's not there than what should i do next?

So here's the Riddle answer:
1- Confusion
2- agony
3- Fire and ice
4- diesease
5- Suflocation
2 and 4 may be wrong (If yes, switch it). It's pretty easy. Save game before talking to him, choose something and remember how many answers were correct. When you have all 5 correct, load the game and choose correct option.
After solving the riddle, come back to the room with the guardian (where you had to fight with 4 demons), turn right and talk to another guardian. Now you can choose: a powerful spell or a powerfull sword (11-21 dmg... or something like that. I don't use it, I got a better one).

evidentally, the order of those tortures is different each time you initiate a conversation with voraatus. i tried it several times: saved my game right in front of him, talked to him, eventually guessed the answer, quit the game, and reloaded. the answer was different the next time.
hmm... i wonder if there is a relationship between the correct answer and the attributes you lose when you guess wrong. anyone know?
anyway, guessing this puzzle isn't that hard it's losing all those attributes that sucks.

When I went through the Tomb of Souls last night, Vorattus simply attacked me. (Maybe I shouldn't have looted those chests in his room before talking to him. )
Anyway, can anybody verify that he actually talks sometimes?

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."
I went there last night, defeated all the fiends to prove myself worthy (no healing, no revive, no summon - I used the Sheild of Retribution to deflect the spells back to them) then went to Voratuus's chamber, looted all the chest and opened his tomb. At first I panicked a bit ans swinged at him once. I was attacked then. Not happy with the out come, so I reloaded (I saved the game just before I open the tomb) and this time, he walk out of the tomb, some succubus spawned and the gate closed, but he never attack me. So I talked to him. When I found out that the answers are random, I just whacked him in to minced demon meat and got Vortugg's ball, er, I mean eyeball.
Yes he does talk. If you decide not to pay for Vortugg's bargain, you can ask him to increase one of your attribute, at the price of another decreasing.
