Knight/Maurader question

Post by toddhd »

I think it was at the Arms dealer in Arindale that I was asked whether I was interested in becoming a Knight or a Maurauder. I didn't really know what the difference was at the time, so I just picked Knight. Now I've learned a bit more about it, and I'd really rather be a Maurader. I was sent to kill the Black Knight, which I haven't done yet. Is there a way to switch my choice, or am I stuck?

I'm pretty sure you're stuck once you've chosen "a way". I chose Knight, too, but Maurauder sounds like more fun! I couldn't find a way to go back and re-choose, unless you load a saved point prior to making the choice.

Unfortunately your Stuck. Go back to a saved Game before your decision. The same thing is true if you decide to change Class (Fighter, Adept, etc) after having chosen one.

with the knight, you get the skill to wear heavy armor and shields. the marauder gains dual wield light weapons and sneak. according to the manual teh marauder is also supposed to get magic weaponry but that doesn't happen. it also doesn't mention that the marauder gains heavy weapons which he does.

they really need to re-write the manual and just post it online.

They really need to do quite a few things :P But I'll tell you right now, it's worth loading an old saved game and going back to - dual wielding is AWESOME, and once you become a deathlord, you can dual wield two medium weapons, which is basically incredible. You can fight off huge groups of enemies easily.

Personally, I like using dual wield for groups of enemies and heavy weapons (such as the giant crusher mace you get from the minotaur in Skuldoon's arena) against one big opponent.

The Deathlord "way" looked pretty cool. It's a shame that the Maurauder can also use heavy armor like a Knight. And dual-weapons would be awesome! Alas, I am only a Knight. I think, though, that the Lord as something like "crushing blow", or something like that (haven't read the manual in a long time). And even though I'm a Knight, I've got a long way to go before reaching Lord status! :(

Sigh - unfortunately I don't have a backup before making that choice. I just toughed my way through the trial of the ancients, and used several save slots during that process. I might have to start over again.

Well, I started over again. Turns out it is the best thing I could have done really. I didn't really understand the mechanics of the game the first time around, and I lost a LOT of experience, and missed items, to that lack of knowledge. I had no idea how to open a chest, or use a pick. I had no idea how to block, how to fight well, or what skills would help me most. Now I do, and having that info from the get-go makes a big difference. Most of all, I've learned to not just keep hitting the "r" key when I die, and watching my stats go in the toilet. I just save often, and suck it up when I die and reload. My stats stay intact, and I always get the chance to try again.

Marauder can't wear heavy armor, but if you take Paladin as the other 2nd tier class you can. And it's easy as the Paladin quest is quite near to Arinsdale, and it's just another monster-bashing thing.
You're not forced to take the Lord anyways, you can always choose as 3d tier, a class related to yours other 2nd tier class.
So if you got Priest as additional 1st tier class and Celestial as 2nd tier class, you can eventually take the Seer wich sided with a knight is a good compromise between phisycal power and magics.
Or Sorcerer/Wizard/Battle Mage.

Nonetheless, you can take Marauder, Paladin or Celestial and then Deathlord and ROCK THE WHOLE GAME/RULE THE WORLD AND MaKe ThOsE Fu**InG FiRe DrAkEs EaT sH**t!!!!!

But that's another matter.
