Help with the fire mountain (spoils)

Post by Nightmare »

I need help with the fire giants' place when I enter 4 normal and 1 elite attack me. Now, I usually have 1 party member killed against two fire giants. I need suggestions on how to beat this accursed lair.

My party:
Me (lvl 22 thief)
Minsc (lvl 17)
Sarevok (lvl 19 or 20)
Imoen (lvl 16 or 17)
Jan (lvl 13 mage and 16 thief)
Viconia (lvl 19 or 20 or 21)
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

don't be afraid to use imoen and jan's spells. look through your equipment to see what items you ahve that do extra damage to giant kin. they really shouldn't be that tough of a fight.

Summon some monsters to keep a portion of the giants busy, and have everyone else pound on one giant at a time. Also, keep the most potent healing potions you have in your characters' quick slots; believe me, you'll be using them often enough. Whack em hard, and have your mages use spell sequencers if need be. You should be able to take em out without too much trouble. Finally, if you find that the fire giants are still too tough for now, go and level up until your fighters get whirlwind or greater whirlwind. That skill helped a lot with giants, or you could use Sarevok's cheesy personal skill...
...ewwwww. What is bad smell? You been killing dragons?

Another thing to try is something that alot of people have to do anyway is to pull back the character a giant is hitting, the AI of the monster causes it to try and get to that character, gives your other guys some free hits. :D :D

I don't do it............much

I'm talking about pulling back before he gets hurt. I once had a troll chase my guy around my other people(who were all hitting the troll) and he just kept going round and round and round till he fell down hehehe

is that cheese? :D

I do that sometimes, come to think of it. I just don't do it quite so blatantly :D :D
(In other words, I only do it if it's the only way to keep my party alive. Usually I'm just trying to disengage the character getting mauled, but the enemy won't give up and keeps chasing him. Not my fault... :D )

You look like your characters are a little wet under the ear, if you get my meaning (inexperienced). Did you do all of the quests in Saradush first? If you did, fire giants randomly spawn outside the fire giant temple. Go and fight some before trying to tackle the temple itself.

Thanks, all. I managed to beat the starting fight. Now for the rest of the temple. I did pull the people bad when they started to get really injured. I also have 3 thieves (backstab city :D ). I also made good use of Imoen and Jans spells. and only Viconia died, but I had a rod of ressurection handy. I think I will also try to level up with the random encounters outside.

Also, if you have the spell Bigby's Crushing Hand it works really well against giants, it does decent damage and it has the advantage of holding the giant for a few rounds. That way, you can get behind him and backstab him a couple of times before he gets loose.
