If what Curry said is true, then th BGIII storyline will take place before BGI & II... does this make sense to anyone? It sounds really lame to me, and totally out of sync with the dramatic timeline of the Realms. I mean, things have changed a lot since BG II, and to set BG III before BG I seems like a really bad idea. Does anyone have anymore info about this?
And for that matter, does anyone have an update about this BG III rumor?

I don't think it a bad idea. Setting BGIII after BGII with the "same" character just wouldn't be fun. You'd be somewhere around level 30-40 by the end of the game and you'd run out of creatures powerful enough to pose a challenge. Placing it before the BG saga allows you to start from scratch with a completely new character who is in no way related to a god nor does he/she aspire to be one(unless of course you play your character as a powerhungry fiend). It'll also allow for a new setting, and there are plenty of people out there who would love to see a few select cities from the forgotten realms set to life.
And just out of curiosity, why do you think it'd be a bad idea to do it this way? The bhaal spawn storyline is OVER. The game will probably be BG in name alone and have nothing to do with the previous incarnations. OK, this has been beaten to death and since no one knows if and when this is gonna happen I'm not gonna waste my "breath" over it.

I think it would be cool to have a part in the beginning of the Bhaal Spawn Saga. If BGIII occurs before everything else, you could be the lover or a relative of one of the characters that Bhaal takes advantage of in the Time of Troubles. You could be on a quest to avenge your sister, mother, aunt, neice, daughter, etc. after Bhaal takes form. This way, you could be a decendent of your characters from BG and BGII. Anybody else like this idea?

I guess I just think that the Time of Troubles has been over for a long time, in two senses: (a) the dramatic sense, and (b) the actual, real time sense.
You can drop a game in anywhere on the dramatic timeline and not have it be too big a deal- hence WWII fps. However, with the real time sense, WOTC has changed the entire D&D realms since TOB. The d20 system is in full gear, not only are we past 2nd ed, we're even past 3.0 and onto 3.5. From this perspective, dealing with the pre-TOB material seems not only silly, it also seems like the creators were lacking any better ideas, almost as if they said,"Well, this was a huge hit in the past- let's do it again!" Also, games in general have gotten much more advanced, and putting a more advanced game dramatically before a beloved (but older) game like BGII means neither of them exists independant of the other. I think BG III should be about the stuff that happened because of the Bhaalspawn saga.
Re: the character- I think BGIII needs a new PC, no matter when it is placed. 2nd ed D&D only went to 20th level for a reason. Getting a PC to 50th level is just silly- Gods don't have that many levels. I think everyone can agree with that.

How about playing your original mother or someone in her party ( Gorion and Firebread Elvenhair might be around then ) ? A storyline set earlier might be interesting as you have a bit more freedom with the whole story. A story set in the current Forgotten Realms has to adhere to Wizards of the Coast canon.
Otherwise, it might be interesting to have a storyline set adjacent to the original one. Being in peril and danger cause of the original storyline.
