And yes, although I support Newcastle United, I wanted the Reds to win. :)
I am actually an Arsenal fan, but unfortunately they didn't do as well as I hoped this season :(

Yes, I thought Everton was in 4th place :eek: As you say, it's certainly not going to improve the fondness between the two sides :(

Kaka has been great, especially in the first half...what a wonderful player he is :)
He's from the best soccer country in the world :D

I like AC Milan, but I havent decided about European teams. I like to watch the games though - rough soccer, very crowded. In Brazil its more about dexterity and stuff. Good to see them both.

I'm an fanatic Atletico Paranaense fan. :D
<snip>
@ CE - you're spot on, UEFA have said that only 4 can qualify but Liverpool have given them a headache by winning the title, they need to decide who gets the chance to play in the Cup next season, personally, its going to come down to Everton or Liverpool, and there will be no love lost between the two sides if one or the other gets picked... :(
Well - according to what the reporters said last night UEFA is currently viewing a petition to allow 5 enligsh teams instead of 4 due to being defending champtions.
Would be kind of ironic if the defending champions weren't allowed to play :D

But it as a great match, and from the view of somebody who wheren't emotional - I do feel the game found its rightfull winner.
Milan might have played better and been the better team, but if you can't wrap the opponents down with a 3-0 lead then you don't deserve to win it either.
And then it is irregardless if the referee made 2 wrong calls (I'm not all that sure, will have to see more reruns), because it is still the team which brings themself if that positions.

I thought for sure the game was going to be dull when Milan scored to 1 and especially to 2, because hey - Italian teams often play to keep a 1-0 lead, especially in important matches. (Would have been if it was Juventus :D ).
But a powerperformance of Liverpool speaking of true moral and comitment (something I think many of the "star" football teams could learn from) they never gave up.

I say Liverpool is the true winners, because they have truely fought with their heart and showned the commitment and teamspirit which makes team-sports great. So I'm very happy for the sake of football that Liverpool won.
@Sytze: :(

Kaka was the best player in the game IMO.
:eek: He was nowhere to be seen in the second half and didn't had that much influence in the first.
Gerrard was definately the MotM to me! :)

BTW: giles337 was referring to the hand ball that Nesta made in the first half. They digitally zoom in on that at half time on Dutch TV, and Johan Cruyff said it was a penalty. But you just knew that ref wouldn't give it...he was such a Milan fan yesterday. Like with the goal they had to take the penalties on. They don't toss for that (they tossed only once after the extra time and that was to decide who would begin the shoot out). The ref chooses the goal at half time. I knew he would choose the goal with the Milanisti behind it.

Anyway, even that didn't help. LIVERPOOL!!!

Do you really care about that European Super Cup? I think it's one of the least important games of the year :o

Ehmm..yes and I played football from when I was 6 till I was 21. I played for the first team squad of my club when I was 15. I trained various youth teams. I have been to at least 300 matches in different stadiums all over Europe...so don't think I don't care about football ;)

Not meaning to be arrogant or aggresive...just wanting to let you see I know what I'm talking about :)
Your post suggested that you thought I was someone from the US that has only seen 3 'soccer' matches in his life :p ...

Well, this is the first time for some time that the news headline is actually "Liverpool won!", instead of "xxx(any English team) won, but there's trouble outside of stadium... :D

It's been the case each time English teams played in major tournament abroad, there're troubles there. Fighting, stabbing, bandalism... leaving all sorts of mess behind.

So, congraturations to Liverpool fans for having good time without causing troubles in Istanbul. :)

I live in Milano, and I for one, couldn't care less about football. Still I love the fact that I can rub it in my friends' faces by going "Ha! You suck!" Since they all cheer for Milan haha. Personally I think it's silly, I mean human beings of superior intelligence going around running after a little ball, that makes us no better than hammsters. If aliens were watching us right now they'd say "They're just -SO- easy to conquer" :p

Contrary to running after some magic token in a computer game, wich would make them say "Wow, these guys are really cool and intelligent. We should probably leave this planet alone."

Or what do you think? :)

I think they would say.... Look at these jerks, running after a ball and pressing some dots on a machine from the stone age :D It would be an insult against our high leader to attack and conquer such a defenseless planet :p
