Need some help with party members/equip

Post by Jetlar »

I'm trying to make my own ultimate party but need some help.

Members:
1 Elf Mage
1 Monk
1 Kensai
1 Elf Archer
1 Thief
1 Fighter or Beserker
1 Cleric

I could use some help choosing one class to go. I also need help with equipment for them all. Could anyone give me a list of the best equip for each one? I also would like some help picking races.

Proficiencies:
Fighter/Beserker: Flail
Axes
Longswords

Kensai: Katanas
Longswords
?

Archer: Longbows
?

Thief: Dagger
Short sword
Short bow

Mage: Staff
Darts

Cleric: Maces
Slings

Thank you to anyone who helps!!

There's really no perfect party. The best thing to do is give your characters abilites in what you would use. A lot of the powerful stuff doesn't come around until later in the game. It's really your call. Plus, I think you have one person too many in your first list...

I know there's no ultimate party, just trying to make MY ultimate party :) . As to why there's 7 chars in my first list, I just need some help deciding on which one to take out... I really want to play them all and can't decide which one to eliminate.

My vote is for the Kensai. :D Dump him.

If you're looking for a Powergaming Party(TM), try dual classers instead (or multis if you have ToB).

@Xyx Sounds good :) . I don't have ToB atm but in a few weeks is my birthday soooo :) . I'm gonna build up my party for ToB. Any other opinions on races or whether to have a pure fighter or beserker? Or equip? :) I'm pretty desperate for advice as I'm a mediocre gamer. I don't desperately want to powergame. I want to find a median between powergaming and roleplaying

You could Dual a kensai with a mage and Dual class a cleric and mage, negating the need for seperating. Of course you do not necessarily need a cleric (except for restoration ;) ) Having an archer is not that important as most of the higher classed characters have protection against these. A thief is essential ;)

There isn't much point IMO, after all the kensai can not wear armour, so the issue of a high AC with the cleric is negated. The kensai mage is the best coice merely because he can wear things like Robe of Vecna which increase his AC.

There are other classes that a Kensai can be dualed into such as Druid etc. i haven't experimented with those, as i usually try to play with a non dualed party.

I would almost always go Berserker for any front line work. They cant specialize in ranged weapons so that why they are up front. Their berserking abilitiy really pays of in a pinch. +2 to Hit and +2 to damage as well as immune to mind affect spells and gains extra attacks too. They do get tired afterwards but only for a minute or so. Hopefully after all enemies are just large chunks of quivering flesh.

personaly i think that race doesnt really make a difrence at all in this now in PnP rpgs with a good story teller/dungeon master race can really make a difrence in how other characters react to you but in this game all the it does it change like weither you are short or tall or can be a certain class or what not i usualy just pick human because it doesnt matter much i never found race usful but as for picking yur guyz i would drop the kensai i find berserker and monk ALOT better then that puny class (kensai-mage and kensai-theif sucks :p ) i would go makeing yur berseker duel weild either katanas CeFu kicks ass long swords because there are alot of them out there or axes be a korgan but alot nicer :) you find good axes fairly early in the game that deal good dmg the whole game through i would have yur theif use gensen bow you make have yur mage/cleric use darts/slings and yur archer use like heartseeker or something like that

Kensai cleric is a killer/overpowered cheese class. The kensai has armor limitations, so the best class to provide spell compensations.

Example: armor of faith stacks, so you can cast 4 times and have complete immunity to magical and weapon damage. Hoever, the cleric/fighter is really a munchkin class, since you can duplicate the kensai cleric with vanilla fighter/cleric multiclass.

cast armor of faith 4 times for damage protection, chaotic commands for psionic protection, then cast righteous magic. This in effect is a LONG duration Kai shot. as all hits will do max damage. Caast greater whrilwind just before you get to bashing range, and youre invulnerable, and un psychable, and you have 10 attacks per round, and each and every hit will do max damage. (no stinking 2d6+4 damage, each hit will do 16 damage until righteous magic runs out!)

The fighter cleric compensates for all the defects in the kensai and cleric classes (Cleric as fighter, no greater whirlwind) and is a evil fighting class. become a swarf cleric fighter (MULTI, not dual) and you can cast the dwarven thrower 10 times per round, doing some major ranged damage.

The kensai mage is much more a offensive machine, as you can do more in the "offesne is the best defense" school. All the really good dhield breakers are in the mage spells, and only druids (Creeping doom) have even the same capabilitys against high level mage type enemies. this is why jaheira is such a kick ass warrior. Too bad she does not have righteous magic, otherwise she would be impossible to defeat. Now, the only problem with her is her low wisdom and str, but htat is what the watchers keep is for. The only problem with figher leric is limit to blunt weapons, but if swords and edges are your thing, go paladin and the chavalier kit, I think you get all the important Buff cleric spells

By the way, choose elven. unless you decide to go dwarven and go for dwarven thrower. Just about every damned enemy in the game casts charm, confusion and hold, and you will appreciate even partial resist that the half elven race will provide. This is why inquisitor kit really rocks, and i'd like it, except keldorn is a something of a snot, tho not as annoying as weenie annomen. too bad you can't I think get quest spells as paladin, though if you get high enough, like keldorn, you might get summon deva as a special ability. don't know. anyway, planetars are so much better!
