Stuck in Naga Temple - let me guess, ANOTHER game stopping bug?

I'm in the room with the six cages full of ghouls. I opened the first cage on the right and all the cages opened, and I killed all the ghouls. The gates to leave the room are still closed. I'm guessing they were supposed to open after I killed all the ghouls, right? Other enemies keep spawning such as snakes, spiders and naga, but I don't think the doors are opening. Is there a switch or something? I've looked everywhere but I seem to be stuck.

yea, I was stuck there for awhile too.
there is a lever and a brick

in the colums is the brick with a red hand and a lever on the wall across
