item with no properties on it

In one of the chests in the fire drake teritory I have found a trinket - Skull of the Fiend -, it has no stats/mods or anything on it.
Does anyone knows the purpose of that item?

Ok, that would be a viable option.

Or i just save before the chest and keep opening it until a decent usable trinket drops.
