Shaengrane Bridge problem

Post by MoonFlower »

I'm new to playing Icewind Dale 2 and have gotten stuck. I destroy all of the mosters at Shaengrane Bridge, but every one is still telling me to go back there.
How can I complete this part?

AFAIR you have to destroy the bridge itself. There's supports on either side of it. Failing that, maybe there's a monster hiding in the corner of the map somewhere?

Yeah, you have to take down the bridge too. There should be a support on each side of the bridge about half-way out the length of the bridge. In the clear area past the barracades.

You Don't destroy the bridge!

In fact, you are supposed to stop the bridge from being destroyed. When you talk to the person, you have to fight to prevent the bridge being destroyed. If you still have to go there, you must have one monster remaining alive.

About saving that bridge... is it possible to not allow those ogres to destroy it? I've been trying that lots of times, but everytime I kill the last ogre, the bridge is destroyed too... Without any message or something...
When in doubt, buy more shoes.

LOL. Thats right! Now I remember. There's supports on either side and you have to take out the monsters hacking away at them. That was so long ago...

It is possible, if you manage to sneak up to the ogres and kill them first. In fact, nothing happens if the bridge is destroyed, you can still complete the quest like that. (maybe you get more XP if you save it? Dunno.)

.

1. your mission is to save the bridge!

2. this is possibble - you just have to stop the 2 ogres(?) in time!

3. the time runs from entering the map - so be prepared!

4. you get more EXP when you manage to save the bridge but you can still go on if you manage to kill all monsters (there might be some hiding in the corners of the map)!

5. best strategy depends on your party build, but best you let your tanks run/sneak to stop the ogre and ignore all other enemies meanwhile - keep on the right side close to the river not to "activate" to many enemies!

Note, when talking to the woman on the bridge, that can depend on whether or not you succeed.

When you see her, dialogue will immeditaley begin. She will try to talk about a truce. If you agree to talk about it, then soon she will say "Ha Ha, it was merely a ruse to allow the ogres to finish" and the bridge is destroyed.

Otherwise she will get angry and try to kill you, and you can stop the ogres.

Either way you have to kill everyone, but don't talk to the woman, just say you want to fight.

...right!

...sorry - I forgot to mention this issue!

...best solution is to talk to her but make no deal with her - as you can earn some EXP this way AFAIR!

The woman will stop you and you'll have to talk to her anyway, according to my experience. You can still have your two strongest guys go for the ogres right away, while you keep her busy.

it's a forced dialogue, but if you start to negotiate with her and then choose to fight you get some extra EXP this way AFAIR!

If you can't finish the quest it can be becouse the bridge was destroyed. I have made it five times and the game have bugged for me like that.

I don't see any reason why you shuld sneak to the ogres, just hack you way forward, and keep to the right all the time. Then the monsters in the middle of the area wont see you. Another good thing to do is also to kill the bugbears first when you battle, as they call for more monsters.

...if the bridge gets destroyed or not shouldn't matter (besides the EXP you won't get) you just need to clean the map - maybe you have an unpatched version!

It wouldn't be that, because I first played with an unpatched version and try to make a deal (yes, I was naive back then). Perhaps you had just missed a monster or two.
