trees attacked me, why?

I know what it was suposed to be like because I dit it once. Bought tree totem, gave it to guardians of the forest and they've allowed me to pass.
Now... I bought tree totem and when I wanted to talk to tree guardians, they attacked me! Have no idea why.
I killed them and went up a level so I don't complain

I'm just curious what happened
