Shadow Ruin Game stopping bug

Post by blueray »

I've been playing a Knight/War Witch, and when I got to Shadow Ruin (refered as SR hereafter) and got stucked in the platform jumping room. Being a pure (well, almost) RPG player I do not possess the reflex to get across the room. Then I heard some one said the the Time slowing spell helps, so I exited the SR and go around to get the spell. However I took a wrong turn and ended up solving the Vale of Ruins quest first (i.e. teleported to VR and completed Daedroth Temple) and followed by Tombs of Souls. Then I decided to return to SR since ToS is close to it. However, when I returned to the Ruin, the Shadowgate is closed! Since I've already put the Shadow Crystal on the padestal/altar thingie, and is unable to remove it, doese that mean I'm now totally screwed? Is there any way I could re-enter SR? Will this be rectified in the 1.2 patch?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You are stuck at this point, aside from loading a saved game from before you entered at first. I don't know if it will be addressed in the patch, but that is possible.

Its even more unfortunate that you're stuck since time stop does not help you get across the room. It slows down your movement, but the 20 (or so) second timer started by the pressure plate is unaffected by your slowing time in the world and it is nearly impossible to get across before the shadow gate disappears, making time crystals pointless here.

I was in the same boat as you until I finally understood the exact mechanics of the puzzle. Then, I found that actually anyone can do it, with the right timing and a little patience. But, I do share your frustation at a puzzle that is designed to test gamers reflexes and does not in any way take into consideration that some people (and their computers) are just not as fast as others. This is another case of "What were they thinking".

oh, man...

So, you mean even if I activated the Time spell, the 20 seconds timer is still running as it had never been slowed, or is it will be slowed along with the spell? I don't mind if it is slowed along with the spell effect, since the extra time (in real world) will allow me to have enough time to react and align the character for the jump (hopefully). If the timer is not affected by the spell then that sucks...I'll have to shove the game aside, or even have to throw it away...I just hope they can increase the time limit to, may be, 30 secs and made the platforms stay up a little longer in the next patch... :(

I do not have a good save before I entered SR, the last save is somewhere in Naga Temple, which is like a few hours worth of game play before I attempt SR...I'm too burn out to restart at that point and have to run all over the world to finish what I have done before, again. I'd rather re-start with another character and play another class. :D

I have an idea, since the save file should contains the position of the character, theoritcally I should be able to edit this location to make me appear at the other side...is this feasible? I normally do not resort to cheating/hacking, but this puzzle is really out of hand...I've been given no chioce...

I sympathise. I have been stuck in this room for 3 days

That the time crystals didn't help was a real shame. That would be an elegant solution for the next patch. Make the timer slow with the time crystals.

i did use the time crystal spell in that room. it does work if you hit the floor panel/button thing AFTER you cast the spell.

but then you'll have to wait for the correct timing to made the jump...that will waste some time.

i got the crystal to work just fine in that room

Walk in, cast crystal of time BEFORE you move...
then walk onto the pressure plate (you cast immediatly when you enter so that all the platforms are at the start)

Now the timer is slowed down too (worked for me) and you can effectly jump right left right left all the way to the end (make each jump, else your screwed lol)

I agree to melegaunt. Cast the "crytal of time" just before entering the room. All platforms are up then.Press pressure plate. wait till the first one gets up again and then jump. Then this is pretty easy.
I had not recognised that the platform starts in the beginning from this position, but on my second run through this room, while checking for the last rune to activate, the jumping was totaly easy.

You really don't need the Crystal of Time to pass that room...it actually made it harder for me. When you first enter the room, activate the symbol on the floor and immediately go to your right and face the platforms. They should be getting ready to go through the first sequence. As the first platform starts to raise, jump onto it and do the same for the remaining platforms. Yes, it might take a few times to get the timing down...but it is possible. If you do fall, exit the platform room and continue through the knight room into the next room...with all of the shadow gates. Once in there, the platform room will reset itself. Go back to the platform room and try again.
