problem with one phaere's quest (SPOILERS)

Post by tamenrot »

Im playing in Ush Natha, the drow city. I've just given the Soulafein's piwafwi to Phaere, and she's just sent me to the Mother in the temple. I've gone to the temple, but Phaere wasn't there, and the Mother Matron told me something like "who are you to be talking to me?". I have come back to the female's building and... met phaere again! And when dialoguing with her, she's said something like: "oh, these are the guys I told you of, Mother Matron, and this is Veldrin".
:(
Obviously this is a bug, isn't it? :( Any advice to solve it? I have no previous saves just because I saved after talking to phaere. And I'd like to finish all the quests in ush natha (the lyche, etc). One solution is to kill the Mother Matron, as I've done; the doors open and I can take the dragon's eggs... but I'd like to do the remaining quests :(

Thanks guys! :)

If you haven't already, download both the latest official patch and also the Baldurdash fix patch.

Also, are you using any mods? They can sometimes mess up dialogue, especially if you don't install the above patches first.

Yes, I'm using the mods Tactics and Ease of Use :) But I think that I haven't patched the game... so I'll find the patches and try to play again.
Thanks! :)

Hold on there, buddy!

Make sure to uninstall the mods, then patch (official, then baldurdash), then reinstall. Patching OVER mods creates some interesting results.

Um... I've been reading the baldurdash fixes, but any bug seems to be the bug I've found. Moreover, the baldurdash advices to not to install the patch over Throne of Bhaal... and I have already installed it (this is my second time playing the baldur's).
If I install it over Throne some interesting results could be viewed too, couldn't them? ;)

I don't think you need to worry about patches. This sometimes happens when an NPC needs to leave the room and you are blocking their access to the nearest door. The script will break, leaving them stranded in the room with you but the variables have already been set indicating that the plot has advanced.

The easiest way to fix this would be to revert to an earlier save and make sure you are not blocking the path to the door. Since you don't have an earlier save, you might try downloading ShadowKeeper and playing around with the global variables. I don't know the names of which ones to set but it will probably have Phaere's name at the begining. Sorry I can't be more help here. (This is a good example, by the way, of why you should always keep more than one save.)

EDIT: One more thing you could try is CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("PHAERE") when you are in the presence of the Matron Mother. There may be more than one version of Phaere's creature code, however, so I don't know if that is the correct one. Someone else may be able to provide it. (VonDondu?)

I think the best solution is that of yours, JackOfClubs :) I think that the patches are not the answer for this problem (btw, I have two characters hasted, so they reached the door before Phaere did. That supports your opinion about my problem). I don't like to play with global variables because sometime I looked at them and the looked... complicated. Now I'm working on other things and I prefer playing instead of investigating the game :) But the solution of Clua her is cool! :D Hahahahaha :)
Although... err... as I didn't want to uninstall and install things, and didn't read your solution until yesterday, I've already gone on with the game. So I defeated the mother matron and take the dragon eggs (bye lyche, bye mage, bye play with a pool of eggs, bye see the demon :p )... and now I'm out of the Underdark :)
All the way, thanks for your help guys!! :)

Probably the best solution. I don't like to play around with global variables either for just the reasons you state. Being somewhat obsessive, I have fiddled around with them in the past, but it is definitely a last resort sort of thing.

Ah, well. Mistakes you make in one playthrough just make the next time more enjoyable, hmm? ;)
