Announcing - DL Savegame Editor

Post by toddhd »

I just completed the first release of my savegame editor for Dungeon Lords. At this point, the editor does one thing, and one thing only. It will allow you to inspect and change the status of your Quests.

For example, say that you have killed Minas Taw, and now you can't find Falen. (This is what happened to me). You are basically stuck - unless you have a decent savegame, or a lot of luck, or a lot of patience to start over again - then you are screwed.

That's where this editor comes in. Just locate the Quest you need to tweak, change the status to whatever it should be, and save your file. Viola! You should be back in business.

I should mention the standard warnings that this program is basically untested on anything other than my own files. It automatically makes a backup of the file you are editing, but you are a fool if you don't make your own backups first. Don't cry to me if the editor ruins something and you don't have a backup. Also, it was written in .NET, and will require the .NET runtime to be installed. Those not wishing to install .NET may simply avoid using the editor.

I will try to add more features in the future as time allows, but I just wanted to "get it out there", as I keep seeing posts with unsolveable quest problems, and this will help a lot.

Big thanks go out to the guys on Typhoon Games forums who listed a bunch of hex editing tricks just I just modded into "this simpler to use" form.

hmm..?

I wonder if this could be used to re-play certain parts of the game. For example, if I wanted to go back and beat the Voratuus (sp?) again, could I?

Also to edit the player's current location, so that I could enjoy the game without having have to suffer the infamous Thightly-timed-platform-jumping puzzle in Shadow Ruin?

Okay I have used this editor and came across a bug, I am on a quest from Valkyra to go to the Tomb of Souls and I have to say certain words, now here is the problem, it comes up that I have been rewarded for this and I have yet to use the editor, I change it to Started and then save it, I then reboot the editor and open the save game and it still shows rewarded. Every save game I have has this problem, is this quest important? I also noticed I have also another quest involving Vooratus now I cannot enter his tomb so am I screwed? The problem is I cannot say the words to the Watcher, I just get Let me in as a conversation, he says begone.

Go put the blood on the altar in the vale of ruins (which has huge bug associated with it as well) and once you talk to the succubus, you'll be able to enter the tomb of souls.
