Can I play Bloodlines on this system?

Post by Hoosier Daddy »

Hello. Long time reader, first time poster.
I hope it's OK to post this here.

I FINALLY got a new computer and I'd like to start playing some of the newer games that have come out recently that my old computer just couldn't handle.

But before I plop down my hard earned cash for a game, I want to make sure my new system will run it. Anyway... here's what I've got:

===============================

Gateway® 507GR Desktop PC

Operating System
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition1

Processor
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 530 supporting Hyper-Threading (HT) Technology5
(1MB L2 Cache | 3 GHz | 800MHz FSB)

Chipset
Intel 915G

Memory
512MB DDR (2 x 256MB), 400Mhz, Dual Channel

Video
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900
up to 224MB DDR Shared Video Memory

Audio
Intel High Definition 6-Channel Audio (5.1)

Hard Drive
200GB (7200 rpm, Serial ATA, 8MB Cache)6

Optical Drives
DVD +/- RW, 16x Multi-Format Double Layer

(up to 8.5GB with Double Layer media)
Write max: 16x DVD +/-R, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD+RW,
4x DVD+R Double Layer, 8x DVD+RW
40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW
Reads max: 16x DVD-ROM Disks
40x CD-ROM disks
DVD-ROM Drive: 16x DVD-ROM; 48x CD-ROM

===============================

The Intel onboard graphics card has me a little worried. According to their website, the card will run Halflife2 (with some slow spots). Is it safe to assume that since Bloodlines uses the same engine that I will be able to play Bloodlines? Has anyone tried playing the game with this card?

Thanks. :)

Hmmm...the RAM and the onboard graphic chip are the weak spots in my opinion.
512 MB RAM is the lower end of the scale, I would go for 1 GB RAM. Onboard graphic chips are usually weak and don't have a good performance.

If you want to invest the money, try to upgrade the RAM and get a real graphic card.

Maybe a friend of yours has the game allready and you can try it out first before buying....

power

the RAM and graphics may let you down. 1Gig of RAM seems necessary and the graphics spec looks iffy to me. Even with 1Gig RAM and 256Mb dedicated graphics card, it can still have the occasional problem - when in obfuscate for example, the shimmering of all surfaces causes slowdown.
You need as good a graphics card as you can get - built in sets never seem as good, IMHO.

I know the RAM and onboard graphics aren't the best. I plan on upgrading eventually, but I just spent a big load on this system and I need to save up for the upgrades.

Maybe I should just hold off on buying the game until I'm sure it will run well.
I've really been looking forward to playing this one and I'd hate to ruin the experience with choppy graphics and system crashes.

Thanks for the input.
