Sneak attack
Sneak attack
Can you sneak attack with every weapon? My fighter 4/Rogue 5 just found a amazing twohandedsword but without sneakattack it makes him quiet useless as I only use him for sneak attacking. I tried using 2-handed sword but it didn't seem like sneakattack worked, in other partys it has worked and therefor I wonder if there is some change in the newest patch concerning sneak attacking. I am not stealthed when I sneak attack but that shuldn't be a problem, shuld it?

as sneak attack is handled differently in any D&D RPG I'm not 100% sure about all of the following points:
- all one-handed blades (not sure about other one handed weapons or 2-handed w. and ranged w.)
- you need to attack the enemy from the rear (only the very 1st attack gives sneak attack then)
- you attack the enemy from two opposite sides and the rogue is the 2nd one who attacks
- you only get one sneak attack per combat round!
- there are several monsters you can't sneak attack at all!
=> I would give all melee PCs 3 rogue levels as this gives you 2D6 sneak, evasion and many SP - more rogue levels are wasted IMHO even the special rogue feats on level ten aren't that usefull as they look like - but they aren't that bad also !

I'm thinking of making a 2 person party, just so I can have one of those a really high level Rogue, perhaps even pure Rogue! 15D6 sneak attacks!!!!!
Sadly to actually play a high level rogue, you need another 'serious' character to take most of the battle action while the Rogue sneaks around behind and starts nailing people.
Here's what I've found for Sneak Attacks in IWD2:
- You can use any melee weapon, if you aren't proficient with that weapon, your sneak attack will probably miss - perhaps this is what's happening to you?
- You can't use missile weapons.
- You sneak attack when you attack from the flank (side) or rear of an opponent, when your opponent is incapacitated, or when you attack from invisibility or shadows.
-You can only sneak an opponent once (and certainly only once per round), unless you leave combat and come back (run away and do something else for a while) or the opponent becomes incapacitaed again. I have had a rogue attack a held opponent, and only it's first hit seems to be a sneak attack all others seem to be normal hits. This seems to be a little buggy though, perhaps with more investigation the rules for this will become clearer. I do know that if you knock someone out with sleep, command etc, the sneak attack them awake and then knock them out again, you get another sneak attack as long as you don't attack them again staright away. weird.

I dont have the patch, so this could be out of date but what I've found with sneak attack is that you can can hit each person once for sneak attack damage as long as you hit them from behind. This generally takes a bit of micro-managing, but I have loads of fun running around in combat hitting everyone in the back.
For some reason, I dont seem to get a sneak attack if I attack from shadows when I'm the only one around ie the rest of my party is miles away. I haven't tryed this too many times so I could just have picked monsters that are immune.
Does anyone know how well improved invisiblity and sneak attack work?

Improved Invis should allow you to sneak attack the first time, and after that only give you a concealment bonus to avoid attacks, but in my game attacking doesn't cancell the total invisibility-everyone just stands around wondering who's stabbing them!
Is there a patch somewhere to fix this? It means I can't use Improved invis. beacuse as it is it's just no fun.
