Just Starting

Post by Gavro »

I've been an avid player of both the Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate series, yet I am having difficulty adjusting to the new rules in Icewind Dale II. I have read the manual to get the just of what’s new, but every time I start a party I feel like I’m just picking skills and feats that “sound good” for the character, but might become useless in the future. I just wanted some suggestions, from personal experience, of which skills and feats work best with which classes and races. Thankyou.

Welcome to IWD2! I'm sure you'll get lots of advice by reading this forum but I'd strongly suggest you read through the guide at http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/IWD2/iwd2char.zip.

I was pretty lost until I read through this. With all the new 3e rules, etc. I especially appreciated that this guide isn't designed to tell you "the ultimate answer". It gives you all the info you need but keeps it open ended and lets you make your own desicions and have fun.

I had similar problems. It was so bad for me, that I put the game back on the shelf for a couple of years before making a serious attempt at it. Then I used the old style template similar to what I had in BG2 (fighter, fighter, thief, mage, mage, priest) which really doesn't work all that well. It works, but not all that well.

So read the information from ishuman's link. Also read the UPP and JUPP parties from the same site (if you want the "ultimate answer"). Also look up Silver Dragon's parties and guides on this forum; he has them posted several times.

And if those are too much reading. Experiment, have fun at it, and don't forget that multiclassing rocks.
