Annoying Sarevok bug

I just started a new TOB game after coming out of SOA. I have the latest patch and the Valen mod installed. Valen is also in my party. Anyway, when I get to the pocket plane for the first time, and after speaking with the solar, Sarevok says something like "I've been waiting for you" but then the dialogue ends. I can't proceed in the game like this, cuz it won't let me do the test, and that's all Sarevok says even after multiple tries and reloads from a couple saves before Illasera. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I've started a new game, and now I've played up to this point again. The problem has ocurred again even with a new game. Could this be the Valen mod's fault? Any help at all would be nice.

I dont think so... Have you tried re-installing? Perhaps some bugfixing mod could help you.

Can't install TOB again

Okay, I unstalled TOB, then SOA. Then I installed SOA again, but now I can't install TOB. I click on 'install' after I insert the TOB disc, but then it just asks if I want to uninstall it, as if it was always installed. But the thing is, it's NOT installed because I can't play it. I tried doing this through add/remove programs too, but it just did the same thing. Now I'm really screwed, cuz I can't play TOB at all.

Have you tried just running the setup rather then running the autorun. Go onto the cd and look for the setup.exe then run that and see what happens.

I tried it through setup.exe. Just gives me the same crap about uninstalling TOB (when it already IS uninstalled). Also, I forgot to mention that my copies of SOA and TOB are from the 'Collection' box set which comes with the Bonus CD. Don't know if that makes any difference, just thought I'd mention it.

If all else fails

Instuctions for a manual uninstall, from the Bioware forums:

1.) Uninstall using the shortcut in the BG2 Start menu or the Add/Remove Programs utility in the Control Panel. The game files should be removed from the user's hard drive and the shortcuts removed from the Start menu.

2.) If step 1 failed, run "baldur.exe" from the CD. It should notify the user that the previous installation attempt failed and that they should try reinstalling the game using the program's Install button.

3.) If step 2 failed, edit the "baldur.ini" file in the directory where the game was installed. Look for the "Installing" key under the "Program Options" section, set it to 1 ("Installing=1"), save the file and repeat step 2.

4.) If step 3 failed, edit the system registry using the regedit / regedit32 utility. Remove the following keys: - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ App Paths \ BG2Main.exe - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall \ {8DAE4336-2B71-11D4-9A6C-006067325E47}

5.) Go to your Program Files directory and find the hidden directory "InstallShield Installation Information" and delete the directory labeled "{8DAE4336-2B71-11D4-9A6C-006067325E47}"

6.) Manually delete all the files and directories created by the previous installation attempts (this should return the system to its state before the original installation attempt) and try again to install from the CD.

Here's the most detailed description I can come up with to show what happens every time. I insert the TOB CD, and click on 'install' (SOA is already installed). But then I get a window that asks if I want to uninstall. I click okay, and info box pops up saying "Baldur's Gate (TM) 2 - Throne of Bhaal (TM) has been removed. Uninstallation of Baldur's gate (TM) 2 - Shadows of Amn will now start. Click ok when it asks if you want to remove all of the selected components." So then I click ok, and another box labeled 'severe' comes up saying: "Setup was not able to launch the Baldur's Gate (2) - Shadows of Amn uninstallation. Please try and remove this using the Add/Remove programs section of the control panel. Baldur's Gate (2) - Throne of Bhaal has been uninstalled." The same thing happens when I try to do it through add/remove programs, and even after I manually deleted everything, including shadow keeper, all my mods, and all portraits from the net. Hope this helps clear some things up.

hm you have any mods installed?

try removing everything from bg1 bg2 from the registry and then uninstall from the ad//remove

then try to reinstall and try tob again then patches and baldursdash

Like I said, I removed EVERYTHING manually, and that was only after I had tried reinstalling before through add/remove programs. TDD, Valen, baldurdash, and shadowkeeper were also obliterated without a trace. It seems like I've tried everything.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but when you unistall, it not only removes physical files, it also removes registry files. Now, you must delete these yourself. I would say how to do it, but it can be quite dangerous if you are unsure of what you are doing. What I would suggest is that you download a program that works on the registry. It will scan it and search for all unused entries, then you can choose to delete the Baldur's Gate related ones. This should work if you understand what I'm saying.

To clarify, did you edit the Registry to remove the appropriate entries there as well? If you don't remove those entries from the Registry, the installer will think the game is already installed.

stramoski's instruction are correct, but there are also some other Registry entries you could delete:

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Bioware Corp

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Bioware Corp.

These other entries should also be deleted if you re-install the game into a different directory:

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ DirectPlay \ Applications \ Baldur's Gate 2

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ GameSpy \

dude you can't have removed everything MANUALLY else you could install bg2/tob without any problems

let's do this step by step

remove every folder created by g2

then go start>run>regedit

export your regitry so you have a backup
so might you screw up things you have a backup

got to hkey_lokal_machine

remove everything from interplay(if you only have bg2 installed)
else double click on the folder and remove bg2

then do as suggested above also those registry settings

and if your still not sure everything is deleted do a search on baldur

and remove every entry/key thing with baldur in it

okay, I've been looking in regedit but I can't find hkey_local_machine or anything else you guys specified. I tried to call tech support earlier today but it's no longer in service. Any more suggestions, or am I totally screwed?

But please be VERY carefull what will you edit at your registry. VERY carefull that's what I mean. You can really destroy your sistem.

Regedit

When in regedit, don't try top find things yourself, use the search function.

Click on Edit, then find... The first thing to look for is BGmain...

Go on with the previously listed instructions from there. Regedit can be intimidating, but just be sure to only delete the keys and folders that Vonduu and I are telling you about, and you'll be all right.
Luis Antonio is correct that you shouldn't go blindly poking, but these instructions are very well tried and true...

Yes, regedit is a very dangeorus tool. Which is why as I suggested that you could download registry programs that take the danger out of it for you, but the advice here is sound so you should not encounter any problems.
