Twisted Rune
Twisted Rune
All you guys have done the twisted rune quest im sure. Im in chapter two at level 12 (necro mage). I tried doing the fight, but couldn't beat them. What level were you guys at when you beat the twisted rune dudes? Were there any spells or weapons that helped out? And is there another battle that this would compare to? <---- something in chap. 2 Thanks
i think all my party members where around lvl 13
me ranger/cleric 9/12(13?)
jan 11/12
edwin 13
korgan 13
hear'dalis 14
viconia 13
i had no problems actually ,only jan died because he tought he could handle a Pit Fiend on his own .
I summoned 4 skeleton warriors cast haste, blured a couple of times, mirror image, iron/stone/bark skin, fire shield, draw upon holymight, righteous magic, blade barrier, prot from evil rad. 10, devense harmonie, ressist fear, chant, and some armors of faith.
it took a while but then u have something
first i let Korgan, Hear'dalis and my Pc whack the lich while Edwin and Jan where trowing spells on him like pierce magic and stuff.
when the Beholder and Fighter became anoying i sended my Ranger/Cleric on them with my Skeleton warriors who where no longer after because before the beholder death fast of the mayor injuries given by my pc, he managed to trow in some death spell to kill the skeletons.
The Fighter also fell quickly and the vampire too didn't have a change against my, amulet of power wearing ranger/cleric .
only the lich was kind of a problem but alot of true seeings, breaches, lower resistances and pierce magices later Korgan and Hear'dalis managed to give him some damage and he fell quickly after a good stunning hit by Hearry ( ) with the Celestial Fury.
the mage died because of her own pit fiend and meteors swarm (as always) so it was actually use less to summon another 5 skeleton warriors to wack her
(long post need a break now )

Okay, let's go through this one opponent at a time, just so I don't lose track of what in blazes I'm talking about. As TheDude mentioned, summon skeleton warriors (if they're high level enough, they have high magic resistance, and at any rate, they distract your opponents). For the Lich, get the longsword Daystar, and cast sunray the moment he teleports among your party members. Regardless of his spell triggered protections, he'll have to make a save or be completely destroyed (sunblock anyone?). You can either keep trying till you kill him in one shot, or have someone on standby to wipe his combat protections away, and whack what little HP he has left (sunray always does a significant amount of damage to undead). For an added punch, get the Helm of Brilliance and cast a second Sunray spell. That should deal with your lich problems. For the vampire, you'll need either the amulet of power, or the upgraded mace of disruption to protect the tank you send from level draining. Sure, there's the negative plane protection spell, but we all know how "long" that lasts... Your tank should be able to wipe the floor with bloodsucker entrails. Then, whack the fighter. And if you can, equip your tank with the Shield of Balduran (bought from the bonus merchant Deidre), which reflects beholder rays. There's a good chance the beholder'll kill himself for you. Or he may dire charm himself and you get yourself a new party member. If the former occurs, then turn all your attentions to the mage. If the latter occurs, then let the beholder work on ol' wavy-fingers-abracadabra. If you're a power gamer and want to get the most exp from the game, then let the mage summon a demon first (she always does this sooner or later... if she survives long enough), then whack her and the demon. If you're worried about spell effects, use a protection from magic scroll on your tank as well. Note: try and get Vhailor's Helm, place the scroll in a belt slot, and cast simulacrum, then have ur simulacrum use it's scroll. That way, you get the benefit of the scroll without wasting either of the two that you have! There are ONLY two of those scrolls, so keep em safe.
...ewwwww. What is bad smell? You been killing dragons?
Couple of quick points...
You don't get Skelton Warriors at level 12 or 13, you have to be level 15.
The Helm of Brilliance is only available from Ribald after you finish the Underdark.
The simularcum trick does work well if you have the extra cash at level 12 to buy the helm and the shield of balduran also makes it easier. Any mix of characters can accomplish the feat, but I've found the best to be a cleric, mage and warrior type of some sort, who I bring in to clean up after most of the rest are already dead.
In addition to the scroll of protection against magic, get the protection from undead scrolls. After you duplication your character with the helm's effect, cast these two spells on the cleric or tank who will be under fire in the main room. Also equip this character with the shield and the upgraded mace of disruption.
I use the mage to cast 3 or 4 death fogs (a level 6 spell) into the room the Lich teleports into. The mage is done... go stand in the alcove to the far left. Then step into the room to draw out the lich, who will summon all his buddies and teleport into the little room you arrived in, right into your death fogs. Since you have undead protection, he won't chase you into the main room.
The beholder will kill itself on your shield, the vampire is easy pickings for a cleric with the mace, and the fighter goes down in 5 or 6 hits. Watch the pit fiend fight the wizard. She'll eventually run out of spells and you can wack her and take the staff.
Somewhere along the line, the lich will die. If he doesn't, wack him with the warrior/paladin who's been watching the whole time.
If you don't want to shell out the cash for the simularcum helm or shield of balduran, throw 3 or 4 skull traps into the area where the beholder will appear. This makes the fight a little tougher and more strategic. Boots of speed are a must for the fellow in the big room, especially if the pit fiend starts to chase you.
Lots of strategies work. You don't need the staff early in the game, so I usually wait until I'm ready to head for Spellhold to kill the four liches and the Twisted Rune, to get the staff and the ring of Gaxx.

but the skul trap move really is great it worked just fine when i played solo sorceror.
i set 2 traps where the beholder and the fighter came. and 1 where the vamps comes.
The fighter instantly died, the beholder only needed a magic missle.
best thing: i was high lvl (17) so the trap had nice range so it dammaged the lich too.
