Have a look at this thread over at the Obsidian forums.

"We were hoping we could bring the Xbox platform into December but didn't want to make the formal announcement until we knew an earlier ship date would not compromise the quality of The Sith Lords," says Producer Mike Gallo.
Possible Spoilers
Its in black:
Ok I think it sucks that you don't get a Lightsaber that early. I mean I played like half the game before I got one! It just sucks that in KOTOR I you got on by entering the Order but in KOTOR II you have to build one? I mean common reguardless of the Exile's cercomstances, why hasn't he built one before this whole mission started? I mean Boa-Dur tells him that having one is essential to who s/he is but they don't have one until he says so?
Thank you for my rant of the day.

Bao-Dur: I think he wanted us to give up the Genreal to his poorly trained collection of bounty hunters.
Atton: Ah. well that would explain it. Which one do you want?
Bao-Dur: I'll take the stupid one who decided to threaten us rather than shoot us when he had the chance.

The lightsaber is an object of desire. Give you a saber take away the desire. Did you miss the conversation with Kreia about the "craving for such a tiny thing of light". She was talking to you.
In Kotor I you play the Endar Spire and Taris with no saber or Force Powers. In Kotor II you play Peragus and Telos with no saber, but you do have force powers.
You should get your saber on the very next planet you visit (unless it's Korriban). As you got your saber on Dantooine in Kotor I.
Half way through? Don't think so. Didn't have to build one in Kotor I? I beg to differ. Instead of being given the bits by the Jedi Order, you have to find the bits in the absence of the Jedi Order. Seems reasonable to me.
It's called pacing. It's called building a character. It's called an RPG.

im on Nar Shadda and i dont have the lightsaber yet. I was just giving it time and what not, but, i talked to bao-dur and he said that i needed a lens. that would be an intellegent statement, however, i already have three lenses! the journal says i have everything but the lens, bao-dur does, but, i look in my inventory and i have three! do i just need a special lens, and does it have to match up with the other parts i have, or is it a glitch?
What you are looking for is the lightsaber lens fixture. What you have three of are lightsaber lens upgrades.
Don't worry, you aren't the first to be mightily confused by this.
On Nar Shaddaa, there are lightsaber parts in Vogga's Hoard and Lootra (the one whos' wife is being held in the refugee sector) has one too. Once you have built your lightsaber, these pickup points yield complete sabers instead. Look at this thread on the Obsidian forums for more info.

I started reading this thread looking for the same information as the original poster, but now I have two rants to add.
Firstly, the Obsidian board. I tried following the link given in this thread, but I cannot view it without registering. So I try to register with my gmail account, and get told that they don't accept that email address. So I tried with my hotmail account, and got given the same message. What kind of stupid site doesn't accept gmail or homail addresses? "Please use another email address" it says. Like millions of other people I'm sure, I don't have any address other than hotmail and gmail. Stupid site.
Next, my two cents on the waiting for the lightsaber thing. I'm somewhere in between W666 and Tovec on this. I see the sense of making players wait to get more powerful, but there are plenty of other things to entice you onward in this game. A jedi without a lightsaber is not really a jedi at all; this game makes you wait too long, and the effect is frustrating.

Just popping in with my two cents:
The first time I played KotOR II, I got my lightsaber ready literally just before I met Visas (in fact I was convinced that obtaining the lightsaber triggered that attack). Then the next few times I only got the saber AFTER having fought Visas (and boy was I scared the first time I had to face her with just my vibroblades..)
IMO, a Jedi is not defined by her lightsaber. While a saber is obviously an important focus for a Jedi, it's your state of mind that matters.
This is why crafting a lightsaber is such an important step in the path of the Jedi. It should never be just a gift, your lightsaber should reflect your person (well , unless you're Luke, apparently).
Personally, I didn't think it was a long time waiting, especially since you get to collect all the parts first, whetting your appetite so to speak.
But then, I also play in a tabletop SW RPG, where I still don't have a lightsaber...

Only weak Jedi need or Want a lightsaber.
A true Jedi (or sith) can make due with any item.
Be it a vibroblade, a blaster or even your own two hands a jedi does not need a lightsaber.
I made a Jedi Gaurdian/Weaponmaster and used a Lightsaber as my only weapon (besides healing) and it was sorta boring.
I made a super smart Sentinel/Weaponmaster who uses 2 lightsabers. He ownz.
When Mira asked me "Have you ever heard about (random planet names)" instead of saying "no" I say "yeah, they were destroyed."
And all his skillz own.

That would be true if the devs make most of the enemies immune to lightsabers. But since the KOTOR series centres around Jedis and the use of Force powers and lightsabers, I'm not surprised that the lightsaber is the most powerful weapon among others.LittleGizka wrote:Only weak Jedi need or Want a lightsaber.

''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

lol, I'm only on telos on an account I just made, and I got a Double-bladed sith sword on the harbinger
Um, now I'm on my second planet after Telos (Dantooine) and I got my Lightsaber before I got of Nar Shadaa, my first plantet. Here's how I did it:
1: I got one part (Crystal, I think) from Telos for helping Czerka.
2: I got another piece from killing Lootra, the guy who was looking for his wife. He's in the Nar Shadaa flophouse. If you're Lightside, you can complete the quest and get the part.
3: I got another one from Vogga's stores. Go to the cantina, get some Juma Juice, then talk to the Twi'lek looking for a dancer with Visas, Handmaiden, or you if your female.
4: I can't really remember where I got the next part, however, I do remember I got it in the Refugee Sector.
I usually go to Nar Shadaa first, because it's easiest to get your lightsaber, not alot of difficult combat for the earlier levels, plus you get a couple of characters. By the time I'm done with Nar Shadaa, the only character I'm missing is Mandalore, which I usually go to second or third.

The Dark Side lies within all of us. All one has to do is look it in the eyes.
You get you saber on the third planet whatever. That includes Korriban. You get one part from Visas when you defeat herand one part from the dead body of Master Vash.w666tvr wrote:
