help with sheriff ***SPOILERS****
Please someone help! I've read the threads dealing with killing the sheriff, and have tried all of them - running around lots, trying different weapons, crouching, jumping. I cannot get away from it quick enough when it reappears, and when it strikes me with the blade, I cannot move at all for a few seconds. I don't want to use any cheats, so how can I damage it enough to change it into the behemoth?

Use the Vorpal blade (snicker-snack) AKA any Katana, and as soon as he vaporises, do a 180 and attack because he's coming up behind you. Keep moving - his weapon can't hurt you if it can't hit you. When in doubt, flee to the underside of the stairwell, and crouch. It helps to have a few blood-packs handy, but don't use them until your health is below 50%. If you have any defensive powers, this is a very good time to use them. If you have any offensive powers, this is a very good time to use them. Bat-boy is perhaps the toughest fight in the entire game. Throw everything you have at him, and then some. And then spit at him, say nasty things about his momma, imply that his sisters are street hookers, and express grave doubts about his lineage. This is a fight you have to *prepare* for, and your chording hand is going to get sore. The upside is that he's the last thing you have to fight. All you have to do is survive.

Arresting point
Da mean Mutha they call da Sheriff is the worst combat experience of the whole game. even with a-se kicking PCs, the thunderous disarming presence knocks you for six. most people find that either a ranged discipline or a firearm works best - but ALWAYS from range. celerity 5 if you must use the t-blade, or else you don't get your swipe in before you get fumble-handed again.
suicide and the other instant kills do damage at distance, so save blood packs for this fight. i find that shooting him and running away backwards is the most reliable, but you do need to keep changing direction as soon as he disappears in a puff of pink smoke, because otherwise he'll be next to you hewing you to bits. I did once grill him, but it is better to save the flamer for the bit afterwards.
the killmatic on auto at close range does some good damage, but the mcclusky/anaconda get 20-40ish per hit and are easier to aim reliably - if you are not close, you don't get disarmed and that is the key.
remember the old children's rhyme:
round and round the balcony, like a teddy bear - one step two step blow the bstd into the air

That would be a good first question.
Next is what is your combat focus: Ranged (what weapon), TMHR, thaumaturgy or protean
Third: kill him. Only you really now how you play, so go with your strengths, keep your blood up and smite the great grey target.

Thanks for your help, still struggling though. I am a Malkavian female with level 4 obfuscate - my other disciplines I haven't needed to use at all through the game. My defence feat is at 10. I've got plenty of firearms and ammo, and have been using the Jagerspas to damage the sherrif the most. I have got the flamethrower and 2 cannisters of gas, but on the advice of other threads I wanted to keep this for the next part of the battle. I will perservere, and see how much longer I can keep trying! Thanks for now!

This is just general FPS principle, but you have the WASD keys under your left hand at all times (assuming a QUERTY keyboard). A lot of people get tied up in holding down the W key. That's killer death. Let your left hand dance around on those keys. It doesn't matter so much where you go, as it matters that you're not here. The more erratic your character's movement is, the harder it will be for the NPC (the sherrif in this case) to hit you. This will hold true even in cases where there is an obvious tactic (such as back-pedalling). In cases like that, you hold down the S key, and randomly hit the A and D keys to move your character back and forth.
The oldest principle in Kung Fu is that if you're in a knife fight, you are going to be cut. The trick is to not die.

Amen. That's right, mostly. You can strafe away (A or D key) when the sheriff dives. I don't like to use the flamethrower cuz you have to be close up. Just fire away while he's in the air. The area effect of the Jagg helps this. Use the flamer on the Grangels.
