okay, once I brought my level 6 character to the Lost Lake to hunt for a moonstone. I went there and it's all empty. So I think "whaddahell, lets crank up the encounter level to MORE so I can get get over with this moonstone thingie".

So I did. I was steadily killing the moonbeasts with my newly aquired sword of flame. Then things get heated (no pun) and I had to jump in to water (again no pun) and shoot those moon beast - as new recruits always popup in pairs (at least) while I'm in the half way killing the beast. Finally, I have to give up even in the water - there are about 22 (as far as I can count in my screen) moonbeasts waiting to be shot. I'm level 19 when I decided to leave the moonbeasts.

Turning the difficulty to hard only makes the critters tougher - takes more hit to kill. And they give more exp too.

fire drake in the road

I had the same encounter with a fire drake right in front of the hotel in Arindale. Ran around the hotel a few times freaking out. finaly made it to the front door and went inside. Saved and came back out and he was gone. Never had an encounter like it again till I went to Forbidden lands. There I have had 3 more. But now I use a ward of fire and about 20 crystals of lightning and reap the exp points. I've killed all the drakes in the nesting grounds this way. encounters set to normal. D

I have encountered a fire drake there too. It even followed me further in, but i finally got it stucked at the stairs between the inn and the temple and shot it for half an hour.

does anyone know where can you get a winter weapon (for sure, not in the chests) or maybe some powerfull bow (that'd be even better).

There is a chest in the northlands that has always seemed to drop a winter dagger every time. It kinda sucks, but it's the only reliable place to get one. Other than that you can most likely obtain a scepter of ice out of the weapons chest in the nagga temple in room number 3 on the walkthrough map.

You might have to cycle through the loot on the chest a few times. Save before opening it, if it's not the scepter of ice, reload the game. The other chest in room 3 drops spells and or random nether katals.

There is a weapons chest in the Irythanbl maze that sometimes drops an Elven Winter Bow.

As far as early game winter weapons go I haven't found a decent weapons box or weapon dropper on the western half of the map. There's two weapon chests in the towers of Ulm that show some promise but the best thing I ever got out of either was a venom shuriken.

I got a winter dagger from one of those chests.

I've just got one winter dagger from the Elven Master Spirit in the final room (the fire room). Maybe one can try to save (outside the room, please) and reload to try to get one early in the game.

Now the fire drakes in Arindale are all gone. :D

a drake will usually spawn once a night just over a small hill as you run toward the nesting area from arindale. He's usually on the ground so you can't see him till you pop over the hill. The area is just before the nesting area which is now infested with spiders and scorpions. Happy hunting. D

I found it quite fun standing on the celstial shrine where the moonbeast spawned around - turning up the encounters to more and runnign around the alter fighting through doors and over walls as they surronded the alter

they often got stuck on the walls and wouldnt move which made them easy targets... and whenever too many got inside the shrine, i backflipped out and killed them from the other side.

'Twas a fun slaughter...
