Dog meat

My game will be dog meat if I can't get a clue. New to BG2, and have done most of the de'Arnise Hold bit - but can't get past the Umber Hulks. I got one dog worth of meat in the cauldron, but can't seem to find any more. Any clues? Please help - I don't want to start all over! (I'll learn my lesson about staggered saves from this, I bet.)

You need the meat from four dead dogs. Check the area again where you killed them. Some die in the shadow of the wall and you may have to fossick around a bit to find them. Image

Even if it's been a while? I've looked around a bit and found nothing. The only dog meat I came up with was Rex, when he was wandering around. I've been all the way to the door of the Hulks in the basement...

Thanks for your quick help, BTW. I get frustrated when I run into dead ends like this - especially when it's b/c of my own mistakes. Duh.

BTW the umber isn't "that" hard. If you open the door to the umber hulks they will not attack (because they can't see you) and since you have more than one spell caster in your party line them up just outside the door, pause the game and place the fireball the same spot. When you unpause the fireballs will blow up simultaneously and what comes out of the door isn't worth that much.

Those dogs should be very close to each other (on the place marked "Dog kennels" on your map). Search the area again, those dog meats are REALLY small.

Ok, I'll help you. First of all,
find the 4 dogs. They CAN NOT dissapear
just like that. They are small, so
just be patient. Kill the four dogs,
go back to the kitchen and operate the
stove to create a thick stew (11500 Exp).
If you want to avoid the Umber Hulk battle all you have to do is have someone sneak past them (invisible or hiding in shadows).
Place the Dog Stew in its place.
The Umber Hulks will then run out of the room to feed. But you can place the Dog Food
there whether you have already killed the Umber Hulks or not (about 25000 EXP).
Enjoy.
And, after all, I don't really understand
your problem. Umber Hulks are weak. Just
cast a charm protection spell of any kind
(like Chaotic Orders) or use a Charm Protection helm or buckler. Kill them.
Hey, and even if you can't find the dog's
meat, don't start over the game. You really
don't need this dog trick to continue.
All you lose is about 30000 Exp - Pfff,
almost nothing.

I want to make sure that I am thinking correctly about what umberhulks do here:

Their effect is confusion, not charm. Right?

I guess chaotic commands is protection, but the helm of charm protection (for example) is not.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Don't know about the rest, but yes, umber hulks cause confusion, not charm.

Okay - I finally found the other three dogs' meat that I didn't have - they really were tiny, especially compared to the search area. (Though I'm sure I'll see worse as I progress.)

Oddly enough, though I sneaked past the hulks, I could never get them to go for the stew once placed in the corner suggested on the walk-through. So after a million quick-saves, I finally just killed the damn things.

A case of too much effort for not enough reward, I think.

Does anyone else think it is funny that, when you post a message on this board with the Topic "Dog meat" it means one thing but when you posted a message on the Fallout II board with the topic "Dog meat" it meant something else entirely?
